A5 jailbreak released

When doing step 7

Step 7: Finally execute the command cinject.exe -w

Found on this link: http://www.limera1n.cc/2012/01/jailbreak-501-iphone-4s-ipad-2-with.html

How long does it take to finish the Jailbreak? I get lots of errors and stuff in cmd.

And do I need a password for the VPN when the program installed on the phone ask for one or do I leave it empty?

You leave it open.

If its taking too long restart the process. But the following also helps. Go to settings> general> reset> and erase all content and settings.

Just make sure you've done a backup as this will clear everything on the device.

Restart the process. Shouldn't take long. A minute with all data etc cleared

Cool. I turned the VPN ON and then it finished in a few seconds. Busy restoring my backup now.

I have Mtn sim in ipad2 and 4s, both throw up network error when trying to open cydia...

Anyone else on Mtn have this

No wifi available to try

I'm finding it hard to find a compelling reason to JB the wife's 4S and iPad2 - she is happy with both as is so I'm not sure if it's worth bothering

Jailbreakers, would appreciate it if you could me an indication of which Cydia apps make it worth the effort (themes, alternative UI's an interfaces don't mean much to the wife, so while those might be compelling to me (hence me an Android user) they're not for the primary user of the devices

I doubt a woman would care ;)

You should ask her what bothers her about the devices and what would she change if she could. We could then identify a potential solution through Jb.

Ah, there's the rub - nothing bothers her about the devices (maybe battery on the 4s) :o

Mmmmm.. Probably best not to tinker with it then.

Battery drain can be attributed to a number of things such as 3G, Bluetooth, apps running and/or suspended in the background, screen brightness.

What Jb does allow is shortcut toggles in the form of sbsettings where you can easily switch these features off when not in use.

RemoveBG is another cydia app that kills apps running and/or suspended in the background.

But those 2 apps alone is probably not reason enough to Jb.

Good. But why would I bother to jailbreak it again?
IMHO jailbreaking is great ... when your iGadget is 3-4 years old and the iOS upgrades are starting to say "Features X, Y and Z are not supported on your device". At that stage, a jailbreak can extend its useful life by another year or so as the JB community creates workarounds for those missing features. Jaibreaking a brand new device is counter-productive. But that is just MHO.

Just 1 dumb question.... Should the Ipad have iOS 5.0.1 or will it work with 5.0 ?

Is 5.0.1 still available as an upgrade ?

Thanks

Agreed. Jailbreak won't work on 5.0 afaik

Must say I've long been critical of ios5 and that coupled with the lack of Jb has kept me on 4.3.3.

Having made the transition though I am thoroughly enjoying some of the new functionality ios5 brings to the table.

Wondering if I should downgrade to 5.0.1 from 5.1 beta 3, just so I can Jailbreak, or should I rather just wait for 5.1 to be released and jailbroken?
