aaargh!! 2 months!!

A word of advice for anyone that has issues with Telkom:

Use the customer care problem escalation process outlined in the phone book.
Its detailed in the first few pages in between all the Telkom propanganda.

You call them and b1tch about your problem, and they then go off and crap on the responsible ppl.
It helped me tremendously - they sorted out an installation problem that I had been fighting for weeks.

h0ll0w, count your blessings. I applied on 15 June and have been fighting the beast every single day since just to get an install date - still no joy. This is Blairgowrie, Jhb. What bugs me is that I handled an application for a client who have offices in all the major cities, and wanted adsl everywhere. This application was done *after* I did my own, and all their lines a have already been installed. I simply don't understand.

nrg_wp you have a good idea, think I'm going to do that tomorrow first thing. Maybe I can even bribe the speed up.

I'd be more than happy to do the damn installation myself, given the option.

koffiejunkie, just keep on calling the 10219 number and ask for the Installations manager of your area. They are the guys you have to get in touch with and over here they install over weekends.

h0ll0w, I have the managers' direct numbers - they just never answer their phones. Andy, Frans, Kim, ect... A man can only listen to so much pan-pipe music.... :-)

I remember when i worked in a call center quite a while back i got R3000.00 per month, answering call after call. Maybe the service we get is proportional to what they get paid. Seems the upper managers take home a fortune for jack ****.

Agreed Swazi, I have often wondered how people earning a salary like that can sit and handle people's "troubles" all day and still have job satisfaction but then Telkom is all about squezing every last ounce of blood out of everyone.

i just hope that they can process mine in a decent time *sigh*

lol, well I had the same problem this morning. I kept on calling from my work phone (private number) and the oke didn't pick up, it may have been pure coincidence, but when I tried from my cellphone the phone was picked up after two rings.
Try it, dont try it. All I know is that they are the only people who can deliver you from your misery.

h0ll0w, I think we definitely have some telkom employees keeping an eye on this forum. Yesterday I got a message from work to phone "Pat" - dunno why they phoned my work, I gave them my cellphone number. But anyway, Phoned Pat, she immediately answered and informed me that my line is being installed on Friday. Thanks Pat!

Placed my order on 8 June. Called them 2 weeks ago to find out what was happening and they couldn't give me a date. Phone them again today and they tell me 29 August!!! I thought the fool had the month wrong!

Something seriously wrong with Telkom in Table View...

Holy crap.
I'm in the east rand - I placed my order on the 19th March! I'm *STILL* waiting.
Every time I phone I get a different freaking date. Last I heard, they said the "ports project" would only be completed on 27 July (This was after being told that it would be completed 8th June previously). I phoned them a couple of minutes ago, and was told the project would only be completed mid August. They gave me a number for some manager in Cape Town, but typically, there's no answer. Maybe I should try from my cell phone like H0ll0w did.
I have lost my patience with all this bullsh***. But what else am I to do? Hurry up and wait.

I should mention that the manager in Cape Town is Mr. Peters, but after reading gonna's story, I guess it's not going to help me in the slightest.

I ordered adsl this morning and they told me it would take 5-6 weeks 0-o I hope it's worst case like gonna says. What no. Must I phone to a date?

I ordered on 22 June and was told when i called the next day 4 Aug install date.
I called 0800 456 786 a couple of times after than and was always told 4 Aug.

Today I called and the same story, 4 Aug. I then asked for the installations manager's number who is dealing with my order - "Sorry I do not have those details, can't help you, 4 Aug can not be changed, good bye".

Called back straight away with the same question:
answer: "one moment while look on the system." Operator then gave me the name (CB) and number.

Called the number and a very helpful Jan answers: "Hold on I will see if she is answering her phone" - "sorry no answer, but do not worry give me your details and I will walk down to her desk and ask her to call you back".

(CB) calls me back in about 20min and sounds very helpful. "Do you mind if we install after hours?" Sure no problem. "I think the technician is fully booked for the weekend but if we get an opening we will give you a call, otherwise we can install this Monday evening, how does that sound?”

I should have done this weeks ago, my advice is just keep calling 0800 456 786 till one of the operators gives you the person on the grounds number.

Fingers crossed, my DSL384 will be rocking by Monday night.

Good to hear you got an earlier installation koffiejunkie and mrsmith, it just shows you how much the poephol(not that they're to blame really) in the call centre knows about whats going on. And I'm very grateful these technicians are willing to work overtime and weekends otherwise I would've had to wait till kingdom come for a basic household thing like ADSL.
I second the advice of hammering the 0800 456 786 number, sometimes you do get a forthcoming operator and he will give you the number of a installation manager.
Now I'm just hoping and hoping a techie will call me this afternoon for my installation this weekend.

They just called me back to confirm that they can do between 08h00 and 09h00 on Sunday morning. As they just told me "you just have to talk to the right people".

h0ll0w what area are you in?

ordered ADSL on the 20 June, i call 0800 375 375 every day 2 get the installation date and all the time i get told that some wud call me in the afternoon(but as usual no1 gets back 2 me) n the reason they dnt hav a installation date is because there are no technicians available.
What other options is there 4 me to do besides call the freakin 0800 number cos the ppl there are damn useless!

h0ll0w, this gets even more unbelieveable. My installation date was friday. Wednesday the technician phoned me, told me he's installing, can I come to the house please. Now I was many hours of traffic away at that particular moment in time, so I arranged with him to meet my housemate at 13:00. Technician never pitched, but he did the installation on the exchange, and my adsl's up and running

mrSmith I'm in Cpt, Bellville.
I had a decent techie for the installation, He pitched exactly 9:00am as appointed. Then he just lined back to the exchange to convert the line, came back and wrapped everything up in a hour.

h0ll0w glad you got hooked up today.
2 techies come around to my place at around 11h30 today and had everything sorted in about 30min.
Now I just need to get my WiFi sorted.
I had to go out just after they left and on the way from Camps bay to Sea Point i must have counted about 4 or 5 Telkom techie vans driving around, these guys must be working flatout even on Sundays.
