About GFX: Has anyone seen this yet?

I found some of it interesting too, just saw some underratewd figures, as well as overrated figures.

Well, most (all) of the figures have a source link. They just took that figure and normalized the result. Don't know what the normalization bit entails though...

hey guys, i've got a 500watt Mircolab PSU, i'm not to sure if it will run a 4850 :( BUT I must say that I got a microlab speaker set, bought it about 1 year ago, and it's still going well and LOUD, any idea if the psu will be any good?

I thought the point was that, you might not need a 600W PSU for your 8800GTX now, but after 2 years, a PSU only delivers something like 500W (I'm guessing).

Point being, rather have more than less.

Though I'm sure there's a lot of hype around big and powerful PSU's, the modding scene is crazy.

I'd still rather not build a R15k rig on a 430W Aopen/generic PSU, though.

whats stopping you from running 2 PSU's??? I mean, if you modded your case a lil bit, you could get 2 430W psu's, one powering the pc, and the other powering your graphics :p

You certainly can. Antec have a case with 2 PSU bays.

My terminal server at work has 3x 380W PSU's :D

I got a friend running the 4850 I brought him on a gigabyte 450W+ psu with no problem. But he doesnt have much drives and extras...

By the way, is the microlab a 500w+ or 500w max?
Coz there is quite a difference

Tom's hardware also claims that manufacturers overrate their power requirements for the cards. Apparently the GX2 only needs 350W under load. Those guys know what they're talking about so I'm inclined to believe that article.

Done for a good reason, to ensure least occurrences of end-users having inadequate power supplies which cause customer complaints.

I don't know how good Microlab PSUs are, never heard of them. At the moment I'm running my 4870 + Q9300 + 2HDD + 1DVD-Writer on a (relatively new) Coolermaster 460W without any problems - for now. So I do not see any problems with running a 4850 on a 500W PSU.
