Absa Internet banking down

And Standard Bank left me without any means to pay at the garage on Saturday, the ATM's were down, and so was the speedpoints.

its becoming increasingly common for a bank to be down....

This is not about Standard Bank but Absa Bank. Stay on-topic.

This is complete BS. Someone mentioned on Talk702 that the banks should be fined for being down, apparently it is done in other parts of the world. Instead of sending out a ****ty apology, they should be slapped with a stiff fine, then you will see how "often" they are down.

What are their risk and continuity management teams doing, this is their core responsibility. Its basically digital load-shedding.

It will take political pressure to give enough powers to the regulator.

In the UK, RBS where recently given hefty fines because customers could not access their accounts through atm's or online. Last year Barclays credited my account with £50 when I complained to them that I couldn't access my account online one Sunday.
I don't what other countries do.
When I stayed in SA, I had problems with Standard and FNB. There was no recourse. They told me as long as I could access my accounts by coming in to a branch during banking hours then that was the extent of their legal obligations. Seems not much has changed.

Also, ABSA seems to be more down than eskom though. Its just usually at the end of the month, not mid month
