ABSA now supports Smart ID applications

How can they be the "latest"? To date not a single one of the banks have gone live with this system despite all the promises. Internal testing does not count.

Maybe the banks are not getting enough money out of the deal...

I bank with ABSA, it already takes up to an hour of waiting to do a 5 minute transaction...
This is certainly going to speed things up.

So the most inefficient dept is working with the most inefficient bank. A match made in heaven I suppose

Been hearing this for years now, still banks seem to know nothing about it

Me too. I'd happily pay R1000 for a passport or ID book if I could be in and out in 10 minutes.

Ever tried to get across borders in Africa? That's how it works.

You can either stand in line for a couple of days or pay up and let some 'agent' help you get the paperwork sorted out quickly.

When will the public be able to make use of this? The queues are unbearable at Home Affairs!

I went into the ABSA at Centurion Lifestyle Centre this morning to cancel my credit card, and was surprised to see that Home Affairs had taken over half the branch for ID and Passport applications.

So, to answer your question. Now, if you go to the right branch.

It's been over 2 yrs ... anybody got any info on when CTN is getting a branch dedicated for this ... Apparently JHB (Sandton) is already getting their 2nd branch?

Phoning for info is useless as ½ those people dont even know what a smartID is

What other options are there for capetonians ? :(

Sorry for necro posting

I'll keep the ID book for as long as it's valid. I can't stand HA queues and last time I was there, the staff acted all rubbish.

Open a savings account at Standard bank canal walk.
Close it when you have your ID.
