Absa Rewards

I get each month automatically...i dont know how though, because I have an ADSL account with Telkom so it automatically gives me 10% of my Telkom bill.

I'm late to this thread, but I wanted to find out if the Rewards programme has changed. A lot of people on this thread talk about how they earn money back just for swiping their ABSA credit and debit cards. As far as I can tell, the current program only gives you money back when you swipe with selected partners. The only 'selected partner' I think I could reasonably use every month is Sasol. But even then, I have to go out of my way to find a Sasol to fill up at, and then spend at least R600 (at 4% back) there in order to make back my ABSA fee. Incidentally, I also noticed on the Terms and Conditions document that the most qualifying amount you can spend at Sasol in an accrual period is R3000. So right now, i'm thinking the most I could possibly get back from ABSA every month is R120 (4% on R3000), which seems unlikely given that I drive a Hyundai i10 and work from home.

Also, others beware: If you use your ABSA credit card to fill up with petrol at SASOL, you are immediately charged interest on that purchase. So while, you may get up to 5% back on that swipe, ABSA will be claiming interest (mine is like 19%) calculated daily. So never ever use your ABSA credit card at Sasol!

I only use Sasol as the loyal shop. If you you spend a certain amount, you get some money back. It works for me, I get about R500 a month back. It work for the credit and tjek card.

If i recall correctly u get 1% cash back on every purchase, anywhere, when you used yr absa cheque or credit card.
5% cash back at sasol garages.
There are a few Absa partners where your can earn more cash back or get discounts.

The interest charged on credit card purchases, be it at Sasol or any other place, would apply only after the 55 day period.

I stand to be corrected

Hi Guys

If you have a cheque and credit card, the following criteria
"We will allocate a score to you every month if you have deposited your salary into your Absa account and if you have initiated 10 or more transactions. 270 points"

Is this on the main account or does transactions on your credit card transaction count as well?

Also what level are you guys on?
If I join, I want to reach level 2 which is 480 points so
We will allocate a score to you every month if you have deposited your salary into your Absa account and if you have initiated 10 or more transactions. 270
Transactional Savings Account and/or Cheque account without an overdraft 100
Credit card 50
We will allocate a score to you every month for eStatements if you don’t receive paper statements for the products that contribute towards your tier 25
We will allocate a score to you every month if we have valid contact details to at least two (2) of the following: Cell number, email address, Home/work number for you. 25

That brings me to 470

Then i can either get an overdraft but I think that has a monthly charge so that is a no or I will open a small savings account
Savings and investments including Unit Trusts 15

which will push me to 485 and I get 5% fuel spend back at sasol

It's been going great until they unexpectedly downgraded me to tier 4 today, got 6% on groceries instead of 20%

Yeah my payout this month (for May) was a lot lower than normal.

Hmmm mine stayed the same but I default to tier 4 anyway. What changed for you guys?

Mine was about 33% lower than normal - however it could be that I just spent less than normal (I think I might've put in less fuel in May) so that could explain the big difference. Will investigate in detail later.

They changed the scoring last month, things like home and vehicle loans are now worth less points.

Does anyone know how to get Absa Rewards working with Nu Metro's website?

Nu Metro wants something called "Absa Client Number" to be added to the profile to get the upfront discount, but can't figure out what this number is. Tried ID number as well as the number of the rewards statement.

Check a SMS from ABSA. There is your surname and 3 digits
