Has anybody set a SARS tax authorisation up via ABSA recently?

I need to set one up and ideally I'd prefer to link it to my credit card account. Is this possible? I've trawled ABSA but it makes no mention of what accounts can or cannot be used.

You have to set the debit account on the e-filling site. SARS will then send a notification to your bank asking for confirmation/approval. :)

Thanks.

I've set it to my cheque account on SARS' side.

One more question; do I have to select to make the payment on SARS' side in order for it to trigger the authorisation notification on ABSA's side?

Yes, you have to click the "Make payment" button on your assessment form. :)

Hmm. For some reason it keeps on telling me that the bank won't process it, but I never see a request to authorise from ABSA.

I think I'll have to get hold of someone at ABSA and/or SARS.

Thanks for the help.

I did mine in December, was very easy. Configure SARS and it came up under the Tax payments in my banking. Set the debit date and confirm the amount and hey, presto!

OMG. Now I can't access online banking. I tried again and this time SARS said it just needs me to confirm on the bank side.

I swear, if I get penalised because none of this is as simple as it should be. . .

It's terrible when things doesn't work as it should. Best to take a step back and try again when you have the strength to do it all over again. :)

Well, it gets better.

I tried to do an EFT. ABSA has SARS loaded as a predefined beneficiary, so a good start. I enter the necessary info in to the open fields. Curiously, one predetermined field, that of 'Bank account number' is simply left as N/A and I cannot change it. Guess what prevents me from adding SARS as a beneficiary? Yep, the N/A bank account number.

I better stop before I blow a gasket.

Don't think you can do a EFT anymore, it requires a credit pull transaction.

I wasn't aware of that. It is still listed on the SARS site as a means of payment, so I thought I'd try set it up and give it a go.

Update:

I went past ABSA on Saturday morning and the issue was resolved. The account I used to access internet banking had actually been closed last year, so while it would give me access to internet banking the account didn't actually exist, hence the error messages. I suspected that that may have had something to do with it. I asked ABSA to set my cheque account as my access account and gave SARS a bash again this morning and Bob's your uncle, no error message on SARS's side and an authorisation notice received on ABSA's side.

Cool, glad you got it sorted. :)
