I got given a Samsung Syncmaster BX2450 LED monitor, which is a really nice monitor and its not that old. However, It didnt come with an AC Adapter/Power Supply cable and as far as Samsung will tell me, I need to order one from America which just wont be practical.

Anyone know of any local shops I could get one from?

Turns out all you really need is 12V 3Adc into a 4.4mm plug; shouldn't be too hard to unearth. Cases in point worth investigating. But you may find it more entertaining to get the right diameter plug if you aren't lucky right off the bat.

I cant even begin to fathom your skills, 10/10 wud give you a hug

UPDATE: I have looked at that connector more carefully and this may be very difficult to find. Can you post some pictures of the socket on the monitor?

I would try to contact this seller on Bidorbuy to see if he can supply you with a plug/tip. You will probably need to send him a picture and bdt's link to the power supply. It seems to be similar to a Sony laptop power plug (EIAJ-05) but I'm not sure if Samsung has their own design.

If you don't have any luck you could try these two sellers but don't spend too much.

Alternatively you might be able to import something from here ...

Take it to Esquire or retails shops. They sell universal power adaptors for laptops. Some boxes at Esquire are not sealed, so you can open it and find out if one of the plugs is physically matching your socket.

Danger Will Robinson! ..be advised that the standard voltage on a laptop PSU is ~19Vdc, DUDEstuff here requires 12V. And, unlike the small(er) overhead we can get away with, say, 9Vdc to 12Vdc on desktop iBurst modems, 12 to 19 is just too much.

The word "Universal" you highlighted indicate that power supply has switchable output voltage, so as long it supports regulated 12V and 3A load, it is fine.

I've always understood universal in this context to apply to the end connectors (as there's inevitably a whole selection of them) for the various brands with their insistence on different sized power sockets; but then I've also never looked closely enough to check if there's also a switchable output voltage so it's entirely possible I'm under-informed on the product. It's just that in my wanderings pretty much every laptop brick I've looked at has been of the order of 19Vdc, it's usually only the current ratings that change (and so govern the size of the brick overall) which is why we see wee little bricks for the really small laptops and much bigger ones for the monsters. But, as far as I've seen anyway, pretty much all at around 19Vdc.

I doon' want to argue on the terminology and reasoning. I can say only that this one at Esquire shop has the following:
- switchable output from 12V to 24V (7 positions)
- 8 interchangeable output plugs
- more than enough power for this application
Some boxes are unsealed, so it can be tried and cost is R75+VAT

There are also newer models, some with automatic voltage selection according to the plug attached, cost is around R350-R400, but these do not have 12V range (starting from 14V).

Here is the range of notebook power supplies that Esquire offers. I see that some of the units do have a 12V output so this would be ideal provided that it has the correct plug/tip. I don't see any selling for R75 but there may be cheaper opened units in the store. Most of the notebook supplies that I've seen before do not have a 12V option though.

This Manhattan unit seems to be the cheapest option (unless there is something cheaper instore) ...
