AC Ryan Playon HD!

I wonder if you can send files across the wireless network to the unit?
Going to pick mine up tomorrow

Yip, apparently you can. I have seen a copy option on the menu too but have not used it as yet. The speed is apparently limited due to the chipset though so USB is recommended for a large number of file transfers.

It also supports peer to peer wireless connections :

Does Playon!HD support peer-to-peer wireless connection with my computer without using a router?
Yes. In this case you should set up the IP address manually as there you have no router in this newtork connection to automatically assign network settings. Is Network settings automatically configured?
Network settings is automatically configured by your network router (DHCP for automatic IP, Gateway, DNS settings). You can also manually set network settings in the Playon!HD setup menu (eg. to override auto settings assigned by your router, or when you connect peer-to-peer with your notebook without a router). [note: answer is same for wired and wireless Network]

Don't have one, but discuss away!

Ha ha not sure if it'll be very interesting with me just sprouting away ;)

Just upgraded my firmware to a new version which changes the GUI. Looks good. It also adds YAMJ to the menu. Spent the last while sorting that out. Need to look into more personalisation here as I like tinkering :) I have read up on personalising the weather feeds too. Still need to get around to doing this. Internet radio not functioning still due to a Shoutcast issue but dying to give it a spin. Have not played around with the Picasa and Flickr feeds yet but must look at those.

quick question. I would like to update my firmware.
i just need to confirm what model we have - asian or european (english is included in both)

another question - i see that this is trial firmware.
if there are issues, would we able to install the latest stable firmware release.

the trial fware graphics and menu are much better than in r3615 though

As I posted that I actually wondered whether you can "downgrade" again. I would assume so....

If not I'm sure it would not be too long before new firmware was released.

just checked my language settings under setup - and I see a whole lot of asian languages. I see that you have upgraded firmware to the europe one - with no errors - so there cant be a whole lot different between the 2

On my original firmware that it came with I had a number of Asian language news feeds. I took a peek at them with the new firmware now that you said this.... and I see they are still there :)

An area I am interested in looking into is the Bit torrent support, well actually the online talk of getting news server support on it... then I can leave those running on the Playon while the laptop gets used for work.

So I've got my AC Ryan Playon HD. Am I the first on here? ;)

Time to unbox it and play! I also got the wifi adapter.

I'll give feedback as I progress. All very new to me so if someone has one feel free to share advice/tips etc.

I see you have an African drum next to it! Do you play?

I still prefer the Mede8or.

That is the kid's one but yeah I have been known to beat the odd drum. ;)

I still prefer the Mede8or.

Could you give reasons? I have to admit to preferring the appearance of the Mede8er at one stage as I did not really like the AC Ryan logo on white on the front of this unit but have come to realise that it is not really visible in the evenings and all you see is the soft blue glow of the PlayonHD light below it.

Hardware wise I am finding it difficult to find many differences. Software wise they are both constantly changing.

Price wise the PlayonHD is the clear winner at the moment.

Apparently these ACRyan units are selling extremely well at Esquire so don't delay guys, get there, buy yours and let's form a local ACRyan community on here. There is lots this thing can do if you have the know how

The Mede8or plays MKV files and comes bundled with and HDMI cable.

It also loads .srt and similar subtitle files for movie playback.

It looks much better.

What is the price compared to M8?

What is the price compared to M8?

About R400 cheaper at Esquire. The mini is even cheaper.

Ditto for the PlayonHD.

So does the PlayonHD. You just need to ensure the srt file is named the same as the movie.

It looks much better.

I thought as much too from online images but I have no problem with the appearance of the Playon.
