Academics 'queuing to quit SA'

Please give us a neutral view once you've been living there for a couple of months. Anything seems better when things look bleak.

I have posted about it elsewhere but a short summary from my perspective :

1. I'm earning more relatively.
2. My kid is getting a better education.
3. My family is a lot safer.
4. We don't have orcs burning down our universities.
5. The air is cleaner.
6. Public heath care is better.
7. As a result of 3 I find that as a family we get out more and enjoy a more active, outdoor lifestyle.
8. We are surrounded by less poverty and the social issues resulting from it.

Don't get me wrong - the move has been the most difficult thing I have ever done but it has been completely worth it.
 
The funny thing is the academics in the humanities depts (the SJW of academia) will get hit the hardest as their PhD on the topic of the Social linguistics of University mob animals means f-all in the real world, wheras the more scientific, law, engineering, accounting and economy people will have a breeze entering industry.

:D Anyway, this is my observation in the SA mining engineering field since 2004

- Majority of qualified engineers/scientists who left SA are white because the industry is mostly comprised of white professionals

- Most have gone to Australia and Canada

- The Black engineers/scientists who left are mostly non-South Africans. I know many from Zimbabwe, Botswana, Ghana

- This year alone, I know three of my Afrikaans colleagues who are leaving for Australia. A Surveyor, Mining Engineer and Geologist.
 
Just checked my old department website. Seems to have changed little. Will be interesting to check again next year.
 
They have been talking 'brain drain' ever since I can remember. I think they are just being dramatic once again.

I do think that BEE and affirmative action has chased away a huge number of incredibly skilled white professionals but I've seen a few non-white South African ex-pats around here and I know of quite a few who have gone to the UK.

The desire for a better life is universal.
 
For most people in SA, they are trapped in shock-induced paralysis with what’s going on right now on so many fronts. The constant bombardment of bad noews has literally shut off their rational, thinking brains and existing in daily survival mode with blinkers.

They are like deer caught in the headlights of a freight truck hurling at them at 120km/h.

People need to introspect, snap out of their comas and respond, or it will be too late.

The people with the authority to speak out that's to afraid to do so are just as responsible for this mess as the criminal students, allowing the SJW tenancies to run wild and then sneaking out of the country to avoid the mess they created.
