accident with no insurance help

In you're eyes prob. both.

I know why I pay insurance and it gives me peace of mind. If you think you're paying insurance because you need to then that's your problem I guess...

I think the economics involved for the industry and the consumer relative to uninsured accident claims is lost on you.

now now chillax peeps

remember depeding on peoples insurance it can range anything from a few hundred to a few thousand, eg: R1500 - R8500 on a high excess, can even be a % based excess

Well it's true. And you still have the small risk of losing your excess if said person doesn't pay. But that very rarely happens. As I said before, I would much rather pay for insurance to have the peace of mind that should something happen to my car and even if I have to lose a fraction of it's value it will be replaced. vs Having to replace it in full. This is the reason I have insurance. I don't have insurance so I still have to worry about who pays what, when and where. That is why my insurance is taken in such a way that I know I won't be stuck with fees I can't afford "Should" something happen. As mentioned previously, I don't have an excess. The reason for this is because I can't afford to have to pay an excess unexpectedly. So I rather pay a few rands more per month and I know it's sorted.

Given, I have only needed to claim from insurance companies once since I had insurance and it was for an accident I didn't cause. I had no problems with the claim and I paid my R 1000 excess with Outsurance way back in the day. After a few years I was paid back the excess since they reclaimed the full amount from the other party. I had my car back, I had a rental car while they repaired mine and what not. Yes I was out of pocket for a R 1000 for a few years. But I got my car back in 3 weeks and apart from the R 1000 I suffered no loss. And I got the R 1000 back in the end so no harm done.

Morning,

My wife and I actually discussed this thread last night and she said I should mention this:

"They're currently busy making it law that you need 3rd party liability when driving. This is very similar to what they have in the UK and the States but different. The way claims are being dealt with stays the same in the South African context but each and every car will need 3rd party cover". That being said, she says instead of now paying R 30 a month for 3rd party liability that price would increase once it becomes law.

Now what this means for comprehensive cover people I have no idea as currently 3rd party liability is part of my comprehensive cover. So whether or not my premiums will increase or just for the people who only have 3rd party I don't know.

Just thought you guys might want to know.

that is for the better but i don't see why it would need to increase

I can only assume as it would increase the risk that insurance companies need to cover?

I don't know though but she said it will definitely increase. And then insurance companies can coin a bit more I guess since it will be law :D

but on the same thinking it should actually decrease their risk as now they dont have to pay me out for the guy who crashed into me that didn't have insurance?

Not really. They have people employed who recover this money at all cost. Now they will still have to employ this people they will just get the money "easier?" I suppose.
To them it's not really a decrease at risk I assume. If so it would be very little, but they need to cover more people. And we all know that if Taxi's need 3rd party insurance their insurance houses will crap their pants daily.

Then again, I'm not into insurance I have no idea how these things work. I'm just thumb sucking here. I'll discuss the merits with my wife this evening.

taxi's will be waived on the law :p

@d3x not sure if you can tell me if they only have 3rd party fire and theft available and not just 3rd party ...

just asked my broker, these are your options:

comprehensive
third party, theft, fire
third party only

then you can also choose to get home contents insurance

hi guys

this morning while driving in traffic the lady in front of me just stops dead on the highway cause of traffic and my brakes didnt hold in time and i just bumped her abit ....her car was a renault clio and mines a golf. ...i just bought the car 2 months ago adn still shopping around for insurance .

the thing is her car had very little damage ...well was just a bumper light ..and small scratches on bumper from my paint ...i have pics but cant seem to upload

it was a renault clio around 2002-2004 shape ...the older hatchback models

does anyone around here how much it cost to replace one of those and to just buffer down the bumper so the paint gets removed

my car well my one headlamp is bust and my grill broken and small dent on fender ...so not bad damage but im worried about her car and i dont have insurance to cover

I have a 1985 bakkie that we use as farm vehicle. since I'm also just 25 and insurance is super expensive, I didn't take out insurance, but my third party insurance is R42/m.
You should always have at least third party insurance, what if she didn't drive a Clio, but a Ferrari or something? Pay her the damages you caused and learn something from it. Hard words but it will save you.
