where can one find stats on how many pedestrians are hurt/killed in accidents versus vehicle accidents. Jaywalking is a crime and was still in play in the 80's with a fine of R25 for getting caught.
why is it that drivers must read through a book on road signs and do's and don'ts yet a pedestrian can willy nilly cross a road as if they have right of way. they should also have a book to read that warns them of the dangers of not following rules of the road.
maybe they should walk in the road and we ride on the pavements.

I unfortunately don't have stats, but I remember reading stats that showed that about half of road accident fatalities in South Africa were pedestrians.
Natural selection. Allowing jaywalking is a good way to figure out who lacks basic co-ordinationor intelligence . It's stupid that it is. Fortunately I've never known it to be enforced in South Africa.Well I still do the occasional jay walking, and never knew that it was a crime.
