Is it possible to pay for one telkom dsl 512 account without bandwidth, then share that account with a friend and just buy the bandwidth ourselves?

If you're in the same house (or very close); yes.

Yes or no, depending on what you mean.

Yes, you can use one 512 adsl line with two computers each dailing its own account. Both computers must be connected to the same adsl modem, and the modem must be in bridge mode.

Or No, you cannot buy a 512 adsl account at your house and have your friend use it at his house. The line must have adsl activated.

that's like asking if you can share the same willy when you go to the wazooooo??? :O

Answer is no... you need your own... but you can guy your own beer to fill it up.

I see. And I guess if I'm on a 384k line then sharing a 512k wont work cos my actual line speed will only allow up to 384k?

Which are you talking about? Line or Bandwidth?

There are very few ISPs that limit the bandwidth to a specific speed for per GB accounts.

Yes, you must always treat the two physical lines as separate. he has his own telephone line with ADSL and you have your own telephone line with ADSL. Two different telephone numbers.

The only way around that is if you get one line into your house with a router, and then run a network cable over to his house and he piggybacks off your line (and it is still possible to run two separate accounts for bandwidth, but you will be halving the line speed between you two).

If you order 1 account for you phone to be connected to DSL then only 1 person can use it, the home owner.
if you want to share and account go to web africa and buy one from there. Pre-paid ADSL offer up to 5 concurrent connections(5 people connect to the same account at the same time). I dont understand why you woudl do this though cos if you buy your own bandwidth you may as well by separate adsl accounts from different ISPs. If the the issue is that you guys live in the same house and share an ADSL line but want your own bandwidth, you can set your PC to dial the ISP using your individual accounts.....wow that sounds confusing

Call saol, with their summerslam, if you move both the lines to saol they will allow you to share one bandwidth cost ...
