Acer Aspire One

Kicking myself for not picking up one of these this weekend at IC for R2000. With Ubuntu Netbook Remix I'm sure it would be a great machine.

Anyone in this thread looking to get rid of theirs?

It's actually a workaround. The Aspire One's touchpad doesn't actually report the number of fingers touching the pad. So basically it uses the width of the "finger" to simulate multi-touch.

I'll see if I can find the link that I used. It involves changing the touchpad driver and adding some lines to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
 
Can anyone confirm whether or not a 32GB SDHC card will work in the AAO 110L ? I've read that it supports a maximum of 16GB. I'll be pretty bummed if I buy a 32GB only to find that it doesn't work.
 
WTF! this is just too weird. My Aspire one goes into standby when it touches another Aspire one. Has anyone else noticed this? It's obviously a "feature", because both of mine behave the same way!

Edit: only does it when the wifi is on.

Netbook one sitting on a wooden desk, closed, off, no power cables, no wires at all.

Netbook two, open, on, wifi on and connected, no wires connected. All working fine even touching netbook one side by side, still working fine. Put netbook two on top of netbook one, as soon as it's front rubber feet touch netbook one's cover, netbook two goes into standby.

And visa versa, with two on the bottom.

Edit: removed battery from netbook two (on the bottom this time), netbook one still went into standby. Still happens if the netbook on the bottom is open.

Mine does it too! Running Ubuntu 9.04! What on earth??
 
For me, it only happens if front 2 rubber pads of top netbook are touching (with both netbooks facing the same way). Doesn't happen when they're facing opposite directions.

Best guess I have is that there is excessive flux from something causing the lid switch to "activate". I have set my top netbook to not standby when lid is closed, and it performs the specified action instead.
 
Ok, I think the lid switch is very sensitive to magnetic fields.
 
Awesome find though! lol!

New info. Seems like it has something to do with the screen. Mine doesn't do it when using the keyboard half of the notebook, only the lid.
 
Seems like a logical explanation, still, it freaked me out the first few times.
