Acer Netbook so slow

Ive got the SDD version, but have read many posts where the HDD IDE controller has reverted to PIO mode access instead of DMA. Go to device manager and check. The way to fix it is to uninstall the second IDE channel (in devicemanager) and reboot. It will then reinstall, using DMA automatically.

Hope this helps!

I'll definate give this a try when I'm home - thanks!

Agreed, check that the IDE controller is running in UDMA:
1) Right click My Computer -> Properties
2) Hardware
3) Device Manager
4) Check the IDE controllers, not sure if it'll be in your primary or secondary controller
5) Ensure that it is running in UDMA, and NOT PIO

Should certainly not be that slow when doing such simple tasks.

If you want to check hard drive throughput, download HDTune and use it to check.

Running DMA if available :/

I'll format quick!

lol ... yea one thing Jager is not fiing :/

It cost R2,500.00 for than the same model without embedded 3G. I could have spent R1,500 on a dongle, but I didn't want *any* peripherals to carry around.

Where did you see that? Only special I have seen is the A110 for R1,999 at incredible, and thats low spec compared to yours.

That's what it's SET to... There should be an uneditable text box that says what it is ACTUALLY running.

Oh damn :(

I formatted as I closed the IE windows so never saw this ... but it's all working now. I'll keep that link on favourites though!

Thanks again!

Don't worry. If it WAS running in PIO mode, the re-install would have fixed it. But there was another way.

However I'd suggest you keep an eye on it. XP keeps trying to force it slower if it encounters errors. Could be a sign of a failing drive.
