The ad is racist and stereotypes Afrikaaners as stupid and sex obsessed. It would be permissible if the Afrikaaners were still in power but now they're a minority and the government is dominated by other people.

Geez. Afrikaners are one of the most sexually-repressed nations on the planet. Not that that stops them monkeying around, though.
But it does remind me of a joke I heard at varsity: Q. How do you know you just slept with an Afrikaans girl? A. She's in tears...

It was probably an Afrikaner director / producer who produced the ad. Why didn't people bitch and moan when Vetkoekpaleis portrayed similar "insults" in their weekly show?
People are so sensitive these days, especially with pathetic things...

I don't think it's just South Africa, though. People are too sensitive in general.
You can't portray a stupid oke without giving him some sort of language/cultural background. You can't have someone totally devoid of ethnic character.
There are thousands of ads of retarded English-speaking white South Africans proclaiming the joys of their latest toilet cleaner/high fiber breakfast cereal/bathroom tiles, and I don't find them personally offensive.

I'm Afrikaans and not offended in the least! If we can't appreciate (or at the very least tolerate) stereotyped jokes we fail as intelligent people.
Rubbish. There have been a few ads portraying black people by their stereotype. Nandos for one have done it before (strangely enough without repercussion).
However I'm glad the ad has been pulled - it was shockingly shyte. And the supposed humour was as tired and dull as ever. No problem with the stereotyping though...

My problem with this is if a black guy was stereo typed they would have also canceled the ad.
My personal feeling are that it is a stupid ad and that people need to grow a thicker skin
You forgotten that "serry ass" ad or the "wiya wiya" ad? (Forgive my spelling.) Then there was the half tiger ad. There are plenty of black stereotypes in ads and I've never heard anyone complain. Hell Leon Shuster plays the worst black stereotypes ever and gets away with it.
Anyway, if you want offensive Afrikaaner sterotypes just watch an afrikaans sitcom or soap opera. The dude who's complaining fits the sterotype of the humourless, aggressive, oversensitive dutchmen of the sort I had as teachers back in the day.
I don't see the harm it can do if it is just one ad in a series of ads. But I think it becomes another issue when the whole advertising strategy is based on race related content. The best ads are often those which have nothing to do with race at all, so I still dont understand it as an advertising medium. With regard to this ad, its the same as that Spur one with the blonde chick, all been done before!!

The ad would have been fine (common as it is, but definately not offensive), if her top said: CupThis and she was dressed in sexy Bafana-Bafana fan fashion.
(from a marketing point: showing support for the world cup without transgressing Fifa and being cheesy whithout being crass .. lol)

Perhaps the complaining man's wife is like the antie in the ad. Cheap and cheesy. Most people hate it when someone/something reminds them of how they really are.
Well... anything can offend anybody...
That is not a good reason to drop the ad... but sometimes the publicity (as is evident with your talking about the complaint) is publicity enough and free to top it off! Shock ads work for that very reason. Ask Nando's!
