Johannesburg - Romans Pizza has withdrawn a TV ad for its boerewors pizza, called a Boeriezza, after a man complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that the ad was "an attack on white Afrikaans women".

He also complained that it showed Afrikaners as "backward" and "obsessed with sex".

In the ad, a buxom blonde woman with two pigtails, bright pink lipstick and a shocking pink top with the words "Wors is lekker" printed on it, walked into a Romans pizza shop.

The man behind the counter asked her if she wanted to buy a "Boeriezza".

She then asked: "What's a Boeriezza? I rather want a pizza."

'I love wors'

When the man explained that it was a pizza with sausage, she said: "I love wors. Lekker."

After getting her pizza, she walked into the shop's glass door. Afterwards, the ad showed her face pressed up against the glass.

Romans's lawyers, Pretoria legal firm Klagsbrun De Vries and Van Deventer, earlier said in their client's defence that the client had not intended to offend Afrikaners.

Did any Afrikaners on this forum feel offended by that AD? I thought it was very funny and never really thought it was offensive. But I ain't no Afriakaner maybe that's why I could not see the offensive bits.

I did find it slightly offensive. There are actually a few adverts where they portray an obvious Afrikaans person (Afrikaans accent) as backwards/stupid/uninformed/etc.
The same advert would never have been made with a black person in that role.

I get that it shows Afrikaaners as 'backwards', but where does the "obsessed with sex" part come in?

:erm: Probably because a black person wouldn't be able to portray an Afrikaner like an white person can.

Watch Kyknet, and see how many of those "offensive" ads are displayed... and they go unnoticed.

You are kidding right? A LOT of ads portray Black people according to stereotypes, sometimes not flattering, but it happens dude.

Yeah, the double entendre is wors does sound rather obvious, although I havent seen it yet. Now I want to look out for it!

all afrikaans women in ads are portrayed like boeboe from vetkoekpaleis, and all the afr guys like boere.
can`t imagine how coloured must feel though.... its like their all either gatiep or meraai from mitchell`s plein.

I was offended by that Fattis & Moni ad where it seems that the only thing the little white boy can say is thank you. And I'm not even white.

My problem with this is if a black guy was stereo typed they would have also canceled the ad.

My personal feeling are that it is a stupid ad and that people need to grow a thicker skin :p

It just seems to be a normal toungue in cheek ad. Where was this supposed attack?

This is a Nandos advert waiting to happen... forget trying to sell boerewors with an Afrikaner, put some chips on his shoulder and advertise that :D

Much ado about nothing...

One dude complained. He probably likes Noot vir Noot and Johan Stemmet's dress sense too.

Really now...I dont mean all Afrikaaners but to those that find this offensive...get your heads out your as$es...

Its a little poke at stereotypes... Do you see coloureds, indians or blacks complain about ads? I dont or Jeremy Mansfield on Raw would have been off the air a very long time ago with all his jokes.

Learn to laugh and stop playing the victim. Myself, I am Greek and a while ago there was an advert of Cafe owners playing soccer. All big hairy men with gold chains...I didnt moan...its funny.
