Hi there

I am looking for some help adding a wireless access point via wired connection to an existing adsl gateway.

The adsl gateway is a linksys wireless with 4 wired points running dhcp. The "new" wireless access point is an old LG electronics router with a WAN point. I am connecting the WAN point via cable to one of the LAN ports on the linksys.

Assume I need to turn dhcp off on LG and assign a fixed ip? The wan port gets an ip from the adsl automatically.

But any clues on ip settings, wireless channels and maybe routing entries? At one point I had it working but cannot recall how :)

The objective is to extend wireless access to the other end of the house cost effectively!

crap man that's a hard one mm well for me i only had a wireless access point and a 4 port switch, and what i wanted to do was to share my 3g connection all trough out the house via wireless access point.
i am not sure if this will help but what i did was that i have my wireless access point assigning IPs automatically.

PC (IP 192.168.3.1) ===>>> 4 port hub ===>>> wireless access point (IP 192.168.3.2) has the PC set as a gateway

now what i wanted to do was to share my 3g connection so what i did was to share that connection to my specific lan adapter that's connected to the access point since i have two lan adapters on my motherboad.

meaning the setup is:
My 3g connection (auto generate ip from vodacom or what ever with the DNS 85.214.18.161 ) ===>>> PC lan adapter (IP 192.168.3.1 default submask ) ===>>> 4 port hub ===>>> wireless access point (IP 192.168.3.2 | gateway 192.168.3.1 | DNS 85.214.18.161 )

this seems to help my access point to auto generate ip in that specific range as well as adding the DNS ip on to any computer / device that connects to my access point.

please make sure u find your DNS that always seems to solve all my connection issues especially when i want to share both my files and internet at the same time.

Hope that gives you an idea

Solved :)

Connected it direct onto hub, disabled all routing, static ips on devices connecting!

Works great!

Was about to recommend this when I saw you sorted yourself out ;)
