Hello

I've just had a Telkom technician install my landline.

1.) I need a modem to connect one pc via a cable to the line. Am I correct in assuming I don't need a router if I'm just using it for one PC? Any suggestions? (I'm going to get a 1mb connection)
2.) Apparently Mweb can activate my line to ADSL as long as I have a post-paid line. Is this true? Do I not need to go through Telkom somehow?

Thanks

If you know that you won't connect any more PC's, then the cheapest ADSL modem that you can get will be the D-Link DSL-2500U for under R200.

Yes, you'll have to activate your ADSL line by going to http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl
You'll need your Telkom order/reference number and your landline telephone number to perform that verification.

If it said 'Success', then the verification process was most likely successful and then you can go ahead and get an ADSL modem and ISP account.

I would suggest that you go for the Web Africa trail / Afrihost R1 account first, until you got everything working.

I just put a random phone and reference number into that ADSL verification page and got the same "success" result page. So much for that.

(I guess I should've done that earlier before posting in the thread)
