ADSL consumer packages - A DigiChilli survey

I remembered Dave's post, which is why I asked. If that is the only thing that can be considered an abuser, then abusers shouldn't really exist on the network, if managed properly. Therefore no need to ban anyone, if they cannot be abusive.

I've had members of the NPO ISP, of whom many are highly qualified, explain to me the ways that ISP's can be abused.

It's no joke, nor a myth.

Some people see it a joke though, to do so.

Well said, in theory. At this stage we're slightly behind the implementation of robust failsafe user management. But when we identify the users, a phone call can change the person's behaviour.

More than that, temporary banning, or the HAMMER, may be in effect til the management is bulletproof.

Thanx for clearing this up on the forum for others guys.

I don't think there is anything missing from the current offers. Uncapped bandwidth, plain and simple.

All I ask for is that the speeds stabelize and that the protocol/port throttling be sorted out so that I can finally get onto my Steam account and download my legally purchased content.

Hi All,

We've found a reason for some of the Auth issues and dropping connections.

WA moved 20,000 users to their new realm from Friday 3pm. Telkom have been dumping IP's on the ESR's. This will explain some of our login and auth issues since Friday. Their thread and Matt's explanations should clarify some of this.

Leg One: Telkom.

We're addressing the Port Shaping asap, so Steam should cook, etc.

4MB uncapped, unshaped, 24/7, @ R500. Let's at least try to get close to international standards, instead of settling for time and protocol restrictions etc.

Serious? During business hours no shaping? Not a chance any ISP will offer that without you paying an arm and a leg...

Well for starters I want so reliable customer service. I phoned Digi chilli support 5 times between thurdsay and saturday and sent 4 emails already, and i was told thrice they will call me back, which they did only to clarify something and that was it. My account is still not working, and it worked for only 1 day and that was last week Wed.

For me customer service is important, i wouldn't mind paying and extra R50-R100 to get proper service and right now Digi chilli sucks.

But ofcourse that is if I ever decide to go to Digi chilli again.

Throttled during the day, full line speed at night / weekends ALA Axxess Uncapped Express but cheaper.

If it must be throttled then do it according to network usage during the day, not a hard throttle. Just enough to keep business users happy. No need to throttle if there is spare bandwidth not being used. But not slower than minimum speed.

Our aim is to run the network 'hot'. i.e. not like previous business models. We've paid for the bandwidth. There is no benefit in not letting our users use it to the max.

Business protocols are there for businesses during the day. We have to balance peak performance vs throttling/shaping across the network. We aim to do it as little as necessary.

What hours would you consider to be business hours?

We're looking at realtime dynamic shaping so business hours will only be when dynamically demanded by users. I.e. We're aiming for the equivalent of dynamic unshaped network.

Right now this is what we are getting. Dave and co is working on getting this improved, hopefully very soon now.

if digichilli can get to speeds of at least 40kb/s then they are worth it but if not, its back to afrihost and just get the 20gb a month cap for R580 but at least torrent speeds are not too bad...

does anyone have a 4mb account with digichili ? how is it ? i want to upgrade my line to 4mb and decide on what isp to use.

That is unlikely. They give you a minimum speed of 256 kbps (32 kB/s), burstable up to 512 kbps (64 kB/s). I doubt your line will give a constant 40 kB/s (320 kbps). I may be wrong, though.
