I don't know if any of you have heard about the bandwidth boosters for ADSL... well look up the IPTV Booster...

Anyway... that aside... check this application, and yes, it does run on Linux under Wine.

ADSL2+ Bandwidth Estimator


We dont have ADSL2+ though ?

actually Telkom has been upgrading the exchanges one by one... in Telkom time... but a lot of the exchanges have ADSL2+ running. Remember, that Telkom has a mandate to have IPTV running by 2010... so I pray they don't so that we have another thing to nail against them.

Then again, if you are like me, you may be deploying ADSL+2 DSLAMS in housing estates...

here in SA Telkom uses AWG26 cabling. You will need to know the location of the client and the location of the exchange. Using software for giving directions you can get the approx. distance to the client from the exchange.

Generally telephone cables follow roads, but sometimes they cut across properties. There are many routes from point a to point b, but the software gives you an approximatation.
