okay, so my adsl can only sync at 1mbps, because telkom tells me I'm situation around 7.2kms away from my exchange, is there anyway to up the rate or do I need to move? :)

I had the same problem. there is NOTHING you can do. i eventually moved to my fathers house. yet at my moms its still ****. and its annoying as hell they are giving ppl 10 mb and expecting to give more. when they cant even give 100% of the population internet that is decent :P

but its telkom! dont expect much more!

Yeah I hear you. Luckily I'm only renting and my gf and I are looking for a place to buy, so criteria is 3+ bedrooms, double garage <2 km from exchange :)

saying to the sales agent , well it has to be within 2km from the exchange. im sure they will say erm what ?

You can log a complaint and force them to move the line to a closer exchange

They cannot always do this. i have tried. i live in queensborough in durban. and my exchange i use is at paradise valley. yet there is one rite down the road in escome. but i cannot use it.

so in some cases they can. although they cant in others.

You might be 7.2km from the Exchange, but the distance to the DSLAM is what you're looking for.

If you're 7.2km from the nearest DSLAM, then there is no way that you can get an ADSL connection at even 384kbps.
