So I ordered ADSL and the lady told me I will need a ADSL filter to be plugged into every telephone plug where a phone is used. I check the internet and all I can find are those big, bulky filters that have to be outside the socket. I have 5 phones in use and I don't want to have this filter outside the wall on every plug. Is there a ADSL filter available that I can put INSIDE the socket?

Other question is: Can I connect the ADSL modem to any plug or does it have to be the first connection where the line comes in?

you need a filter before every set of phones, and the DSL can be connected to any unfiltered portion of the line

thank you guys, that solves the first of my problems. the other thing is the filter itself. And store in SA that sells micro adsl filters or in wall adsl filters? could i order filters from ebay UK or are they country specific?

Have you received your ADSL modem yet? most modems come with 1 or 2 filters in the box

Purchase them for R35 from the Telkom shop

Yes they should fit np

People on forums really do not read or fail at comprehension.

will they fit inside the socket?

NO, they do NOT fit inside the socket. The RJ-11 connector fits but the box dangles outside.

Keep in mind that those UK faceplates that incorporate a ADSL filter use a BT socket for the phone and not a RJ-11 socket!

Your best bet is to use a Central Filter/Splitter for all your phones to connect to, this would be installed at the point where the line comes into your house and then gets teed off to the internal wiring. You would have to phone around to find them although you could also make your own from a normal filter if you have a bit of technical knowledge.
