Hi Everyone,
I was googling how long it takes to get ADSL fully setup. Some of the information was outdated and some varied. So I would just like to give my experience since there might be someone else out there with similar experience.
I was going the Mobile route for years now and until recently we bought a house. With the wife doing the facebook book thing, twittering and whatsapp'ing (sending photos to family and friends). Her cell phone account sky-rocketed. I decided to get ADSL and then connect all the devices through Wi-Fi.
So what did I do and how long did it take?
First thing I needed was Telephone Line. On Monday 20th August 2012 I went to Telkom shop in Fourways to apply for landline. Thinking this will be very painfully long wait, it took 10min to sort out the forms (No Queues!). Wednesday the landline was installed. Great now I needed the ADSL line.
Thinking it would be easier to let the ISP handle my account, I went that route. Went with Afrihost's 4mb uncapped. I applied online on Thursday morning (at about 08:30) and 8min later I had access to the client zone and could track the progress. From here the process felt long because now I had to wait for Telkom. But Afrihost send me regular SMS to keep me posted. I even phoned them just to try and find out how long it would take. They said it could take up to 30 days!:wtf:
Yesterday I got told that everything is sorted and I could use my ADSL.
So from start time (applying for land line) to being able to connect took 15 days. Which I think isn't too bad considering I had to get everything.
