Hi.

Does anyone have some suggestions for me to get my ADSL installed.

I've ordered it and my Installation date was for 6 Febuary 2004. I'm still without ADSL. I made various, actually plenty of calls to Telkom ADSL with no luck. I had to take a days leave for the 6th of Feb for them to come and install it. I phoned them 3 times on that day and they assured me that they are installing it that day, now I've wasted my day's leave costing me a lot of money. It's now the 12th. Anyone know how I can get some sort of response from them. Did anyone else have this problem? PLEASE HELP I'M GOING TO STRANGLE THEM!!!!!
We need to get another operator VERY quickly.

That is exactly the problem with a monopoly. They have nobody to keep them accountable...

Cheers

Welcome fellow sufferer.

Some important points from personal experience:
- Never rely on the given date. Telkom is a true and reliable source of randomness.
- When they tell you they'll call the morning before the installation to ensure you're ready for the techie, what they actually mean is: a techie will pitch up at your place and we won't call beforehand to confirm with you.

I'm also working on cracking the rest of the telkom 'secret speak':
- "We'll look into it" is code for "I've already forgotten about you're enquiry and you're more likely to win the lotto than receive any feedback on this issue".
- "We'll credit your account" usually means "Jones from accounts will try and organise some mickey-mouse money for you"

My complaint that went to the group executive officer yesterday.
BTW I still have had no response.

Good luck

"Re our telephonic conversation today here are the details of the order and the problem.

Order no :

I think the best would be for me to include the original complaint I lodged on the internet for which I still have received no reply.

At the beginning of December 2003 I ordered an ADSL connection from Telkom after I checked on your website that ADSL was available in my area (Westdene). That was confirmed telephonically by the sales person who called me and everything seemed fine. Around the middle of December I followed up and was told that I am waiting for ports. No problem. I was contacted by Zainad (021) 414 4998 around mid December to say that it was unlikely I would have ports before the end of the year. That was fine by me as I was going on leave and it was the festive season etc. I again followed up the first week in January 2004 and was told by the help desk person Kevin that my ports were allocated and I was only awaiting installation date. Joy oh joy , but that would soon turn to tears. When I followed up a week later to find out when the installation date was, I was told that there were no ports assigned to me. Phoned around and tried to find out what was going on. Finally got told that now there was not only no ports available, but they had to upgrade the exchange as well. Complained bitterly about the really awful service and since then have never heard from Zainab again. But in the end I had no choice but to wait for the upgrade that would be completed at the end of January. On Monday the 2nd of February I followed up and once again joy oh joy, you would be installing my ADSL on Monday. Waited expectantly the whole Monday for the call. At around 15:30 got a call from the installations department, "They had a problem at another site and could not make my installation on Monday, would it be okay of they did it on Tuesday." Not being unreasonable that was fine with me. Waited whole of Tuesday morning , no call. At 12:00 I called the help desk once again. Spoke to Mrs Jacobs and she told me she would escelate the call and get back to me. By 15:00, still no call so I once again phoned the helpdesk. Not only did the helpdesk person not get back to me, but now there was an undetermined cable problem with my order. That was the last straw, so I asked to be connected to the supervisor and got told that they cannot put me throught, I must have been mistaken, I though I was talking to the telephone company and you cannot even transfer a call internally woe ADSL. But so on and so on I go a name George Hill and a phone number (021) 414 4832. Tried to call the number but got no answer, only automatically gets switched back to the helpdesk. Tried several times. Gave it a few minutes and tried again. Finally let it ring though to the helpdesk and spoke to Niki who informed me that Goerge Hill had already left for the day, very convenient and she would leave a message for him to call me in the morning. At 12:00 today 3rd of February I am still waiting for a call from George Hill so tried the number again which again automatically switched me to the help desk a call again. Spoke to Bonita. Yes, he is there but he is busy on the line, probably not an unreasonable possibility. Asked again to have him give me a call. It is now more than an hour later and still no response. I am out of ideas. Do Telkom actually sell ADSL or do you just let people order it and mess them around until in frustration they return to ISDN.

I would really appreciate it if I could get some form of response.

Thanks

1. I am still waiting for any kind of response to this complaint.
2. On thursday last week I did get a call from Zainab telling me that they can only install my ADSL on the 16th of February because I had missed my previous installation date of 2nd of February. I got told that I am now relegated to the back of the installation que. This is like someone getting in front of the que in a bank, being told there is no envelopes but because of that you have to go and stand in the back of the que.
3. I leave a message for Goerge Hill, a supervisor and he does not even bother to contact me.
4. Zainad's whole attitude accepting no responsibility for the problem and not once apologising for the inconvenience. I did get a distinct impression that she thought my complaint was one huge joke.

at least they told you what was wrong. Up to now they can't tell me why they did not come to install my ADSL on the 6th of Feb.
Today they said that they will do it on the 22nd of April.... my reply was "WHAT????" She said that it is impossible, and that I must phone her tomorrow at 7:30. Ureta 021 414 4584.
I spoke to numerous other people including mrs Jacobs. Vidaad (manager) should have phoned me on Monday already, but nothing yet. The gave me James Mills number which did not work. I also tried to get Vidaad's number but they could not transfer me nor give her number. At least they phoned you back. I've never receive a single call, since they phoned me to confirm my account details, including username, password and email addresses. This I got mid January already. But I can't do much with those without the hardware ready.

Find out who the supervisor's supervisor is, but trust me, go and pitch up at your local telkom office, speak to a supervisor, and see how fast this gets resolved (look like you'll kill him, that helps)

I just spoke to Sharon. 0800 600 126
She said that she will be personally responsible for my issue. And that she'll get back to me by 8am tomorrow, after I told her that I'll be getting impatient by 9am tomorrow. Let's wait and see.

Just got a call from Telkom informing me that they would be installing my ADSL tomorrow. Sounded like someone who's pet has died so maybe we could potentially have a contact here. If and this is a huuuuuuuuuge if I do get mine installed tomorrow I can refer you to the GEO's numbers I got. I wont reveal how I got them. Even got home numbers lol.

ADSL up and running. Yeehaaaaaaa. Forgot the number at work. Will post it on monday.

BTW A Question?

Did you also get an adblocker installed which bugs you to register and something called virtual bouncer? I'm gonna uninstall it asap.

Ebenp, reading backwards is not the point. Anyone can do that. Think about what it represents.

Regarding order and installation.

Out of the blue, not expecting it, Telkom not able to give me an installation date, I had a call 3 weeks after ordering (two days after I enquired). The technician said he wanted to come and install the line. OK fine I took the afternoon off. And yes it happened. Also that morning also I had a service agent phone me to schedule it for the next week. I said that 'peter' phoned me this morning and said he was to install my line today, and she then said that 'then it will be done'.

They did F... A.. at my house for the service. It's a matter of configuration at the exchange. Maybe they play around with a few wires and I feel that depending in installation date, remember it goes to Telkom planning first, then to your local exchange which may be where the problem is.

i.e. Planning works, exchange operators/technicians/managers/... are a little bit more unorganised/lazy/not bothered to do installations???, I don't really know but I do know of lazy Telkom technicians from contacts I know who worked from telkom.

I really have no complaints about my installation.

Steve

Did you order ADSL through the internet or via phone call?.
