I advised that our dslam in our area are overloaded and that users need to be moved to a new rack.
To add on...you know that the moving to another rack/dslam will not fix the problem. The actual problem is that there is not enough bandwidth supplied to the dslam at the exchange and this is what is causing the latency. Think of it as an egg timer. You have a load of sand at the top but a small little hole for it to fall through. There is simply put to many customers configured on this dslam for the little ammoubnt of bandwidth supplied.
That is what is now being addressed by the company we know as Telkom. They are in the process of upgrading the equipment at the exchange to provide a larger ammount of bandwidth to the dslam so that we do not have this latency.
Timelines that I have on hand is as follows. Equipment to do th upgrade will be available on 31/05/2010. Time to do the upgrade and all cofigurations should be happening in the first 2 weeks of June.
