Adsl latency issue still pending: Centurion

you are correct - its not fixed yet :(
Middle of last night it spiked like crazy. Late evening/early morning it was pretty decent. So its prob just alleviation due to seacom related issues.

Jip same think happened to me as well. Latency was all over the place last night. And guesse what the Seacom okes got leased bandwidth from a 3rd party to provide international service to their customers. So back to square one for us...

So it seems that they are eventually making a dent in the upgrading of Heuweloord exchange. The contractors is eventually busy with the work at the exchange after there was a delay in material availability. As sson as I have more accurate information on the actual progress I will post it for all to read.

dude! Once again thanks so much. Cant wait till its done, would be great gaming from home again.

Ok so this is what I have on the Heuweloord upgrade...

The new equipment is in at the exchange. They now still have to commision it and then get the system connected to the fiber route before it can go live. Due to the network freez with the FIFA SWC no further work could be done to complete the job. The only other major delay foreseen is the fiber testing that has to be done where the system has to work before it can be connected to the route. If all goes well and the fibers is working well they should be able to get the job done fairly quickly.

I should have more information on the progress within next week..

Hi Guys

Well the new equipment is in and live. We are now waiting to see when the new ATM/Metro Ethernet cut over to the system and DSLAM will be done which will at last resolve this high latency problem that we are all experiencing.

As soon as I have dates and times when the traffic cut over will be take place I will post it here for all to see.

Regards

Hi there all

I don't want to jump the gun but it seems as if this problem of ours has been fixed. I have been having a great Latency and Connection speed over the past weekend and today. As soon as I have more I will let you know but all seems to be fine for now within the Heuweloord exchange area.

Its looks much much better but its still not 100% correct. I've been monitoring it and I'm still getting the occasional timeout and ping spikes over the last few days with no load. With load it becomes more noticeable. Also late at night over the weekend (Saturday @ about 1am specifically) there was a complete loss of connection (saw it on another occasion over the weekend too) for a while (I only waited for like 10min then went to bed).

All in all a huge improvement - but not quite at the standard of a friends conn a few kilometers away (he stays less than 1km away from the Centurion Center). Will keep an eye on it over the next while.

Just a further update on something I just got. A while back I logged an ICASA call for my line issues. Just got feedback from Telkom in response to the ICASA complaint. To quote the Telkom feedback to the complaint:
"The acceptance of infrastructure has been scheduled for 30 August 2010. The case will be pending until then. Feedback will be given once the service is restored."

If I understand correctly - the upgrade is scheduled to be completed on the 30th of this month then which is awesome news.

At the moment however the line definitely not working correctly (just tested some gaming on it). Hopefully not long to wait now guys - will be so good to play from home once again :)

The time you mention above was when the actual work was done. That is why your service was down.

I dunno if it did anything tbh man. From what AcidT says I think the upgrade was already planned and scheduled before I did that. I didnt know this however (and neither did many @ Telkom who I spoke to). The ICASA route was simply the last option I had left to try escalate the issue. If you know of no plans to fix your exchange and Telkom is seemingly unwilling to help you its probably a good idea.

Happy to say that so far from my testing today - the DSL service looks pretty much perfect. This is so awesome to be playing from home at a normal speed again!

So how do I get Telkom to fix the Pierre van Ryneveld Exchange; it has the same latency issues.
Mr Jax, I can confirm this same latency issue in PvR.

I can not find any outstanding issues or problems for Pierre van Ryneveld exchange area w.r.t. the above complaints. I will try to find out and provide you guys with feedback on it.
