Hi there

My DSL Line Attenuation and Noise is currently

Line Attenuation 62 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 8 db 13 db

Is this high ?

Should my line be able to sync at 4mb ?

At the moment it seems it will only sync at max around 1312 kbps using a netgear DG834

Your line Attenuation is too high and the SNR too low.

Try getting a Techie out. The Line Attenuation should atleast be below 55db.. And the SNR above 12....

ill give them a call and see what they can do. that little calculator thing works quite kewl

62 attenuation...384 at best

u'll never get a total stable up to 4meg profile with ADSL.

dunno what the future holds for 2+

let them check:

dp
e-side
v-side
dropdown cable

give u new filters
test with /without phones/faxes

hehe its funny. with that calculator i put in the details and it comes EXACTLY at what im syncing at atm 992.u say that i shud be getting 384 at best but mine is solid stable at 992. oh wellz all i can do is give telkom some more k@k :D

LOL, you forget Telkoms ADSL provisioning contract says if they can't supply a stable service they simply remove it, and they're not joking, they actually did it to me once. so be carefull about giving them **** about 32kbps, and the 4mb service is an "upto" service, which means it can be 2kbps and still be within the promised range.

Telkom believes good service means simply removing it if it's not good enough for you.

sheeesh thats hectic  . typical i suppose coming from them. well in that case i will ask them some friendly technical assistance eheh

does anyone know how to check the SNR and attenuation on the premium combo?

i have no idea what the difference is between premium combo and such but i checked mine in the router config in diagnostics.

I've looked all over and can't seem to find it anywhere on the premium combo :(

well i tried phoning to ask if they could send out a technician to see if they could reduce the noise and so on. unfortunatly it had no effect. This is what he said "Sorry but when they installed the line they checked all those possibilities and you are on the maximum speed that you could possibly get due to the distance u are from the exchange. " and that was that :/ oh wellz was worth a try :)
