My ADSL line keeps disconnecting. Telkom couldn't find any problem on line and ISP says its my router.

I checked the ISP logs and it first said Port Error. I then changed the router and now it says User Request. I have checked settings on router and there is no timeout. Does anybody have any ideas or had the same problem? I'm using a Belkin wireless router. It used to be fine but getting this problem for about a month now.

Does it break everytime ure phone rings ? If so, check ure pots filters.

what speed are you trying to sync at? when i upgraded to 4mbps it did the same, telkom then eventually changed it to sync at 1024k and since then its been fine, distance to exchange plays a role... drop the speed and check if it works

i'm afriad that a telkom issue...
whats yor Line Attenuation and Noise Margin?

they also play a role..

I'm having the same problem, telkom says its my router but thats b.s., I'll get a netgear router though to test it, I've been having an intermittent line for 2 months now and telkom came over 4 times and didn't do anything

If you think that it's a radio frequency interference problem you could try a filter. See here for details on making your own. Could also be your home wiring etc.

This is one of the best commercial ones

I can give you details of a place in Midrand that makes ADSL microfilters that might be prepared to modify their design slightly for your application.

Take a look at this thread for lots of related information ...

have a friend who had a Telkom ADSL POTS router for about 3years..

had been running 24/7 and all of the sudden it would just start to drop connections.

on closer inspection his line attenuation had jumped from a normal 48 to about 63-65.

i took my netgear 834GT router to his house - and whala - line attenuation back to 46-48 - and his connection had been stable again.

in this case end-of-life for his router had been the problem.

get another router to test - i can HIGHLY recommend the 834GT from netgear for replacement :)

One of my clients had the same issue and it turned out to be an issue with the phone connection that ADT had used to connect up their alarm system. If you have an alarm system connected up to your phone line, I would suggest checking that.
