Hi,

I have a fustrating problem that we are trying to solve the last few days.

The adsl line is syncing at 10mb down, 1mb up - and seems stable. But under WAN it just says "connecting" - does not connect and get IP from ISP. My ISP is Afrihost, and according to them my account is OK. They also dont see any login attempts. I have also tried the Telkom guest account, which does not work (keeps saying either "connecting" or "disconnected" with both accounts). Tried different routers, same problem.

So Telkom says they cant do anything, becaue line is sync'd and stable. Afrihost say they cant do anything, because my account is OK, and Telkom guest account is also not working.

I've asked Telkom to reset the ports, resync at a lower speed (4Mb), no luck.

Any ideas? Our home business rely on this service, so it is quite critical.

I had a similar issue yesterday to MWEB. Telkom were working on th ephone lines, so my ADSL dropped. When the router came back up, the user id and password on the router defaulted to Guest@telkom, so could not connect to ISP.

I had the same issue some time back. My line would sync, but I couldn't even connect to the Telkom guest account. I also tried different routers. Every time I logged a fault, I'd get an SMS to say the issue has been resolved within 24 hours after logging it, but nothing ever got done.

Eventually after the 5th fault, they sent out a technician, who seemed convinced the problem was on my side. He came back the following day with his own router, and surprize, it also wouldn't connect. Eventually, he said he would send someone who "deals with ADSL" to help :erm:. Anyway, I never saw a technician again, but the following morning my line was fixed.

After almost 2 weeks of downtime they credited me with a whopping R50 , but only after I made a request.

First, make sure your credentials are correct and you are connecting using the right username (not your clientzone username and password). Check by doing this: My connectivity -> Click on your package -> Access Details.
Try using a different POTS filter port for your router and also reset the router (should be a little button you need to push with a pin or something for a few seconds). If that doesn't work, try with a 1GB free account from an ISP (like Afrihost or Axxess). If neither of those work, then it is definitely a Telkom issue. If either does work, then it's either a problem from your side or your DSL account.

Your modem is stuffed. Get a new one

Are your router settings correct should be vci 8 vpi 35?

Did you guys read my post? Tried more than one router, tried more than one account.

Is it possible to go to Afrihost Client Zone and change your access details?
Could be that their authentication servers are failing again.

Gosh, I have had this exact same problem for more than 3 months now. The problem started when I thought it was time to replace my 4 year old Netgear modem which had poor wireless coverage. My brand spanking new TP-Link modem would sync, but not authenticate. I put it down to a faulty modem and reverted to the Netgear. I eventually splurged out on a brand new Netgear N750, bells and whistles, modem. Guess what? Same problem. It would sync, and not authenticate - and yep, have confirmed all settings are correct. I've tried a few other modems and have the exact same problem. For some reason, my old Netgear DGN2000 with custom firmware syncys and authenticates within a minute or two. I've lost track of the number faults I've logged with Telkom. I've had more than one technician here, and they insist that the fault is not on their side. I have ISP accounts with MWEB and Afrihost and neither of them see any problems on their side. It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place - TELKOM points the finger at the ISP, the ISP points the finger at TELKOM. Meanwhile my old trust Netgear with cr*ppy wireless coverage, is the only modem that works. I have 2 spanking new modems, a TP-Link and Netgear N750 waiting to be unleashed. My account has been running perfectly on a 10meg line for a few years now. We have been having one or 2 issues with a congested exchange at Clareinch (Claremont, Cape Town), but other than that no problems really. I'm "glad" another user is experiencing the same issue. I thought I was going nuts...

I experience this issue on my line with certain modems. Dlink 2500u/2640u are just about the only modems that solves the problem for me (totally solved). What modem are you using?

I now have the exact same problem.

Telkom has reset my post but that did not help. I have used my Webafrica, Afrihost and the guest Telkom account and still had the same error.

I am using an Asus DSL12NU router and have never had this problem.

Did you guys get your problem solved?

Same problem, right now in Stellenbosch. Tried two different modems. Afrihost, mweb and mtn accounts.

Afrihost support said they are experiencing adsl auth issues now, but I don't think it's their problem.

Anybody else have this?

Guys also make sure your modem doesn't have the default ([email protected]) connected. Its easy to miss.

Everything will appear normal (all the usual lights etc will be on), but that account doesn't allow actual access to the internet. This happens when you reset some routers to default settings.

I have done a port reset and I definitely have my Webafrica account details entered.

Problem still persists.
