ADSL over Microwave link...?

From the Telkom box there are wires running to the Vodacom box and to a microwave dish on my roof. This is obviously the backbone link, linking the cell phone equipment to Telkom core network.

Would it be possible to get an internet connection via this link?

This is the OP's question. If he wants to speak to anyone, it will be a telkom anyone and not a VC anyone.:)

Cant see how that would help, Telkom's customer is VC, not him, and his contractual relationship is with VC.

Either way he's going to get a toffee.

EMR ( OUCH !!!! )

Seeing as he is literally living with the "THING"

Maybe he just needs to plug his brain in :D

I wonder what the emmission values look like

What concerns me is that HE is not concerned.

I would ask for my "site-rental" to be converted into connectivity.

However I am sure that enough "fiddling" around will get you *somewhere*

( It might however be a dank dark damp place without any sunlight :D )

Research Research Research --> will take you a long way ( BEFORE touching anything )

Links

How do you think VC connect their 1000s of basestations spread across the country? They and the other MNOs have no other option, there just isnt anything else.
Not always cable
Microwave links in RURAL areas ( back to Telkom exchange )

How about a microwave link from MTN to VC -- now that is interesting.
And its big business for Telkom.
Even though these NMO backhaul links are highly discounted, Telkom made R983 mil in the last 6 months providing them (as per their latest interim results).
Thats a lot of E1 links.

You a Telkom shareholder ( and VC )

( IF you are , perhaps you could tell us where to find out info about which GSM base stations have cable backhaul and which utilise microwave
ALL in someones DB somewhere )

Excuse the obvious

How do you know that it is a microwave dish and how do you know that it is the backhaul

GSM antenna are quite different -- IF it is a microwave dish then the backhaul is most likely via microwave.

[edit]
Get up on the roof -- take a compass reading on the direction of the dish ( microwave is likely to be point to point ) go to GE and do some orienteering
Voila
you have your answer.
[/edit]

Would it be possible to get an internet connection via this link? The wireless radio connecting to the dish has got an Ethernet port on it.
HHhhmm certain electronic test and diagnostic equipment will be able to ascertain what goes on there. ( Breakout boxes / Protocol Analysers )

I know the simple answer will be that it is not possible, but I am sure if I get in contact with the right person anything is possible.

Anything AND everything is always possible ;)

Man made it -- Man can "unmake" it.

Reference material / Equipment / Brains

How much do you have to spend on equipment ??????

( Now WHY couldn't this be MY house :D )

You guys are being way too technical. You just stick a spanner into the thing somewhere so that you short it out, and when the technician comes to fix it, offer him a bribe :D
