ADSL Price Comparison

If Afrihost can continue to reap users from competition, the competition will eventually have to budge on pricing to try and stop it...

Yip, that sounds wonderful but in reality even with you having to waste your international you can't beat Telkom.

Telkom All Access 3Gb : 20Gb local + 3Gb if you are going to waste your international on local @ R149 = R6.48 per Gb


Now tell me who an beat that?!?
 
Please, remember, telkom "can" sell at a lower price, simply because they do not pay per gig.

Most importantly, they have you paying double for the line.

telkom should not even be included in a single comparison.
 
Given bundles like Do3, these cost comparisons realy should at the least include the ADSL rental portion to better reflect what you are paying for on a package basis.

Lightscribe, you keep telling us this whenever the discussion of cheapest comes up but you are yet to provide an alternate solution. As a consumer I want the best deal for my needs. If this means, unfortunately, having to sell my soul to the devil then so be it.

I will be paying double for the line no matter who I use! So what is my alternative?
 
I'm sorry but can I be the one to say that "The Staff Writer" should be fired?

Afrihost's special is ending sometime THIS WEEK. So even though this comparison is spot on, NONE OF THE OTHER ISP'S specials are factored into this at all, so why should Afrihost who is running a special be compared to those who are not???

Please, no one said do not use telkom. They "pwn" you.

I keep saying, that the standalone top up gigs from Afrihost are cheaper than telkom standalone prices.

Comparing products from telkom is like comparing SASOL prices, with the prices that petrol stations sell at...

That is telkom voodoo talk...

You cannot add telkom's line and ADSL rental costs, onto what others sell at, since telkom is the one that makes the killing, on the rental, to subsidise their per gig prices...

Well that argument does not hold as petrol prices are legislated....

Lightscribe, I do like what you are trying to do but you are really just confusing matters. Most people want to reduce the TOTAL cost of their internet usage. Telling them not to factor in line rental etc for whatever reason is not going to hold. That is part of the total cost.
 
Try all you wish to obfuscate...

The fact remains, Afrihost is the cheapest of the ISPs.

telkom is a monopoly...not a standalone ISP, with standalone gigs, unsubsidised by line and ADSL rental prices.

It's a permanent price, locked in for those that buy during a certain period of time.

It thus qualifies as permanent.

Then top up with Afrihost.

And where are you guys with giving us bandwidth at no profit? I want local data for R5 or less per Gb! ;) On that note, how much does 1Gb of local data actually cost the ISP? Do you know? Or are you sworn to secrecy?

because those who have taken up Afrihost on the special have had the price locked in for the future as long as they remain a customer.

These Price Comparison articles are a snapshot in time. They update them fairly regularly, so consider this just the state of the market at the moment.

I am sure they will do a new one next month, when the Afrihost special is over and Cybersmart and a few others (hopefully OpenWeb) have new pricing out.

i believe that is called looking at how much leaves my wallet depending on which package i choose.

It's a standard protection clause... not like Cybersmart who threaten to degrade your service if they find something they don't like! :mad:
