ADSL Problems!!!! What must I do next to get this sorted...

Well, still no luck.

Very disapointed, the communication between telkom and web africa is shocking.

Telkom tell WA the line is up and running, WA tell me the line is up and running and I'm sitting at home with absolutely no internet.

Confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that its not an error on my end, adsl going straight into wall, correct settings tried on 2 routers Netgear and a Mercer, they both work at my parent's house, dont work at my house.

So it's defenitely a problem somewhere out of my control (telephone line is working perfectly.)

I am however at a complex, could this lead to any problems? Split line or something?

To make things worse a Telkom techie phoned me on Saturday morning at about 8:30am - i was really happy he confirmed he was on his way to fix the problem. Hours later no one had contacted me. So i get hold of Telscum and they tell me that reference number I had for that fault with that techie was not adsl-related. So I can only assume that techie bailed?

I'm still unsure how to proceed, WA assure me that Telkom are gonna fix it today but i have no hope...

Thanks for all your guy's help, really appreciate it.

Edit - My phone line comes from the living room to the study, no possible jacks are between where it comes into the house, and where it ends up in the study. Meaning the only place that i have access to the line is in the study with a wall socket that t has 2 plugs, a phone still works if I go into that wall socket, does this mean that wall socket is acting as a filter as well? As far as I know a telephone should not work on an ADSL line without a filter?

The wall socket shouldn't have a filter in it.

The telephone will most definitely work on an ADSL line without a filter. The ADSL (POTS) filters simply block out the higher frequencies (low pass filter that is) that the ADSL modem uses, so that your telephone doesn't interfere with your ADSL modem's signal.
The ADSL modems are usually directly (unfiltered) connected to the telephone line.

Is your router not even able to synchronize? Like if it has DSL & PPP lights, the DSL light should at least be lit for the ADSL line to be working.
Could you open up the webpage of the router and post the ADSL stats here?

Hi Pada,

I will upload screenshots of my router config as soon as I get home. (go go 3G!).

phoning Telkom every day trying to get my issue resolved, got an escalation reference number now and somebody actually called me now to clarify a couple of points, still not sure if it's progress :erm:

I was just looking for the ADSL modem stats (2nd screenshot you posted).

You can try changing the ADSL (modulation) mode to G.Dmt (like Merenwenrago said), but I highly doubt that it would make any difference.

Still no luck, I can't seem to change the type of DSL on the router, I've sifted through all the menus and options - doesnt look possible to change.
This is turning out to be the most frustrating, uphill battle. I actually can't believe the incompetence and actual bull sh*t I've been through trying to get this sorted out.

I was assured by my ISP that Telkom would come yesterday evening or this morning before 10am.

...nothing...

WOW, just from being on this forum from start even I AM getting frustrated now... just hang in there dude!

I'd suggest calling WA and asking to be escalated to tier 2 support, or what ever it is that they call it, and threaten to bad mouth them all over the main forums and write to the paper if they DO NOT GET THIS SORTED!!!

i know it sounds childish, but i used to work in a call center for a well known IT brand and these types of calls usually got escalated to managers, which in turn, ends up getting sorted out quickly. Good luck!

So after a technician failed to come on saturday, I'm told a techie will come yesterday before 10AM - He eventually came at 16:20pm.

I rushed home from work to catch him, when I got there he hadn't even been to the exchange yet. I let him in, let him assess the setup in my study, assured him that everything was working here and the problem has to be at the exchange.

With a dumb look on his face, Ike the Telkom technician told me there was nothing he could do at the exchange\DSLAM because he does not have access. WHY DID TELKOM SEND ME A TECHNICIAN WHO CANT HELP?

It was 16:30pm and this guy just wanted to go home. Without helping the customer, without doing his job.

After that total joke I was on hold to telkom 3 times after being cut off twice from useless technical support (THEY CUT ME OFF TWICE!?!?!) I eventually got through to someone decent who seemed eager to help me. He's included me in emails to and from his Supervisor and they assure me they're going to sort this out today.

I'm not holding my breath...

ITS WORKING FINALLY!!!!!

Ike the Technician was there this morning, tested, and its working. Hoorah for me!

Thanks all of you for your assistance, suggestions and help.

Congrats, lucky you!

I'm still waiting :(

Dunno what the problem was, probably something complicated like "not plugged in".

I come from a house that had uncapped 10mb but recently moved out, now you can imagine how starved for data i've been. I made 1.2gb of Vodacom 3G data last me like 4 weeks...

So after all that, it didn't cross your mind to ask what the problem was???

Ike the Telkom Technician could only say "it was a problem at the exchange" after I asked him.

My guess is when they came out to activate the line at the exchange they either A: Didn't come out at all or B: Didn't do it properly\connected into faulty port?

So the installation was never completed.... Telkom is stupid
