Hi all

We can use our ADSL router while browsing, flat out Youtube etc with no problem

As soon as I play BF4 multiplayer, it lasts about 10 min, I get disconnected and the router freezes up completely. Happens everytime. Yellow triangle notification icon (no internet connection or something to that extent)

Can't even get into the router via my explorer and have to do a hard reset

Is it time to throw this router away? Its a SMC router

Thanks

Regards,

Sounds like the router is faulty as you suspected :( Sounds like BF4 is maybe bombing out your router with multiple connections? I haven't known of it to do so before, so this sounds like a first to me :D

Any spare routers (maybe from a friend) which you can use to test?

Hi

Tried a different router - does the same thing.

I think the problem lies with my pc, my brothers pc is on the same network and when I loose connection (10 min of BF4) and cant even access any webpages or router, he is perfectly fine. He has full access to the router and all internet pages / connection

Have tried turning off firewall but no difference. I'm running win 8.1 and he's in win 7

Completely stumped here

Thanks

Aha! That's important to know!

Okay, so it sounds like your Network interface is being overloaded and the drivers are crashing. Could you possibly update to the latest drivers? Try Driver Genius (of course, there are ways to get it for free ;) ) if you can't find the correct driver :)

That would explain that when your router is rebooted, your connection is reset too - resulting in a fix!

I will brainstorm some more and post a few more options tomorrow :)

Telkom

Thanks for the help!

Hi Rickster

Did just that - didnt pick up any malware. I also did a windows update and the issue still remains

Any ideas ?

Thanks

it does sound like its your network card.

just for fun, try using your brothers network cable for a while and see if it makes any difference? could be the cable creating a building of CRC's

Hi there

Just an update, i did a fresh install of win 8.1 and 7 and it still did it (not while gaming but while downloading a 1gb file). Will try a different network but me thinks its the NIC...

Yea, sounds like a NIC issue :-(

Network cards are cheap these days (R75 for the usual 100Mbps). I think your best bet would be to go buy a replacement and try that :)

Only problem is i have an m-atx board so the only available pci slot is VERY close to gtx 780 !

Ooh... might get a bit hot :/

Uhmm... other other Possible answer is a USB to Ethernet port, however they're quite expensive.

However, for now - I think it would be best to confirm the NIC being faulty :) Any friends with a spare network card to test?

Going to make a plan to confirm fault lies with NIC

Maybe time to upgrade :P

You know what they say, if its not broke, dont change it. However, this ultimately means that when it is broke, the best thing to do would be to upgrade it :D

My opinion: I'd suggest try disabling Windows Defender and see if that's the problem ...

Ensure all the drivers are up-to-date and maybe try running Ccleaner on your system to cleanse all temp files that might clog up your machine.
