How can you change the MAC address on an adsl router, not physically but with software. Linux or MS?

Your router has to support it ror starters, they should provide something in the interface. There may be an undocumented method but ud have to read about it somewhere. What model?

I know security junkies like to put hackers off by altering the manufacturer portion of the mac so they go looking in the wrong place for security flaws.

mac change

I want to change it. I can change any other mac address I like, Nothing illegal in that, anybody if misbehavin can be tracked back to there telkom tel no adsl traffic as well. basically your adsl modem/router (Not a modem really) communicates with the telkom/saix router time is logged, ip issued mac captured.

However given this I want to change my router mac address. not to communicate online with changed mac however.

Actually you can trace all connects back to your 'line port' at the exchange which is linked to your tel. number... are you trying to keep an eye out for hackers who use their own equipment on your physical line?

Some service providers like web africa let you limit connections to the line ports of your choice, allowing you to control physically where your login details can be used, or view which adsl lines have been used to login with your details.

Not sure how useful mac addresses will be with logging... all it tells you is who's equipment connected... except of course if you are trying to spoof in order to commit fraud or set someone else up... not advised (but I'm sure that's not the case) ;)

BTW, I came up with nothing when trying to search for custom mac address for your model, sorry.

Hi sorry thats what I meant you can trace/link the internet connection back to a specific telephone number. I am merely curious about how to change the mac as I said I can pretty much change most macs but cant at the moment change router. I am very into Network security.

My new project is hacking into a windows laptop (my own) via a linux box (again my own) via firewire by passing windows authentication, thats my challenge for the week will keep forum posted.

IMO there's not much use in changing mac address - this won't deter hackers. There's many mays to hack into a device, probably the last thing you will use is the mac to identify the manufacturer. There's far easier ways.

mac address spoofing on the other hard is a different story. I've done quite a few pen tests with spoofing mac addresses :D

Wouldnt surprise me - the number of open wireless points is scary.

Elf1nDrak3 - of course its possible! Ever heard of mac spoofing

I normally use a flash drives with BackTrack another drive with SLAX as my normal os runs really quick from flash can read and write to ntfs windows.

Back to router mac address are we saying you cant change via software such as macchanger in linux?

Sorry to labour the issue.

I can't find anything on the web for that router, so your best bet is to ask on their own support forum.
