Hey everybody. Happy New Year to all :)

I need some help from the adsl experts here, as I'm feeling a bit lost. We decided to get the DoBroadband level 1 package, over the 2 year contract so we could get the free router. We opted for self install, since I am a network admin, install wouldn't be hard. We got the Mega 105WR router.

After picking up the package today, I've not been able to get the thing to run right. Getting the line verified was a pain, as the facility on the Telkom site wasn't working. Eventually I got it activated by phoning the help line. The line dropped, and when it came back, the speed was 384/128 which is correct.

Next I had issues with the username and password for the adsl account, as we apparently needed to have something changed on the account, as it was used for dial up originally. After spending forever on the phone again, I got the password changed by a consultant. However, this is when the router decided not to play nice with me.

The DSL light doesn't always light up after a reboot, so the line doesn't appear to sych like adsl should. I've checked all my connections, everything is spot on and firmly in place. The internet light simply won't go on anymore, despite doing so before the line was verified. According to the web management, it seems like the dsl line is not getting in any packets. The other technical info is as follows: DS Line Attenuation is 16, US line is 9. US Margin is 12 and DS 31.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do? I've reset the thing numerous times, changed phone cables, swapped Micro filters (router is not plugged into one of course), plugged the cable through the surge protection and not through it, left the thing on, switched it off, you name it.

Should I go back to waiting on the phone for them? Go back to Telkom Direct shop and ask them to check the router in case it's faulty?

I'd appreciate any help please :)

it was used for dial up originally
You'll have to fix that too.

Problem Description 4:
When the wizard tries to open the Telkom website or when I try to open any other
website, a Dial-up Connection screen pops up asking me to connect to the internet. It
doesn’t matter what choice I make I can not connect or see the website.
Solution:
1. Your Internet Explorer is still setup to connect to the Internet using a dial-up account
such as traditional analog or ISDN. Please change this setting to “Never Dial a
connection”. You will find this setting on the internet options form. Click on Start>
Control Panel> Internet Options, then click on the connections Tab. Now check the
“Never Dial a Connection” button. If the problem persists, click the “Setup” button in
the top-right corner of the connections tab. Select “Connect to the Internet”, “Setup
my Connection Manually”, “Connect Using a Broadband connection that is always
on” and then click finish

I would check the password by logging in to the usage tracker at www.telkomsa.net.
It uses the same login & password.

I'm pleased to say that the issue has somehow resolved itself. I phoned the Helpdesk, and a helpful chap went through quite a few steps with me. Although the connection itself didn't work, he told me if all else failed, to take the router back to the shop and let them test it.

About 20 or so minutes after teh call, I was about to pack up shop, when all of a sudden the DSL light came on, and then the internet light. Maybe whatever the guy did just took a while to filter though.

End result is that things are working, and I'm happy.

Thanks for your help Sackboy, even though I already did those tips already. Thanks for replying though :)

I am getting the same thing now on my brand spanking new ADSL line.

The modem syncs, I can even dial into both my AXXESS and my Teklom accounts, but ... no packets are being received at all, though packets are being sent.

I spoke to 10215, but they don't know of another step to take, according the 10215, if you can connect using your dail-up account, then there is nothing left to do.

So, I spoze I'll just wait for teklom to complete their mystery step that nobody knows about some time.

I feel your pain about this, and I hope you get sorted out eventually. The router is still running fine now, although I'm too afraid to even switch it off at the moment. Will wait a while before trying that.
