ADSL subscriber growth accelerating

"Telkom continues to aggressively promote its broadband packages through focusing our marketing efforts on particular customer groupings and the up-selling of the higher end broadband packages which offer substantial value. We have also put in maximum effort to promote entry-level ADSL packages with extremely competitive pricing," Telkom said.

BullSh|t. The only reason Telkom's ADSL subscriber base continues to grow is because of innovative ISPs like MWEB and Afrihost. It has absolutely nothing to do with Telkom's own efforts.

"We continue to make every effort to increase the bandwidth available to our customers."

More BullSh|t from Telkom. It is sad to see an industry where the incumbent continues to increase profits and drive subscriber growth due to the efforts of, not their own, but others.

Have to admit if it wasn't for the cheap uncapped development I would never have got an ADSL line. Pretty sure that was actually the cause of of a lot of new sign ups. Once again Telskum taking credit where none is due.

I second that.

Yep, the figures are for ADSL line rentals, not subscribers.

The term subscribers generally refers to customers at an IP services layer (i.e. their ISP).

Telkom’s ADSL prices remained unchanged since August 2007.

This alone shows Telkom's commitment to broadband penetration. Why hasn't the prices changed? Because Telkom still has the monopoly in providing fixed line access..

"Telkom today announced its financial results for the six months ended 30 September 2010, revealing that their ADSL growth has started accelerating again.

Over the last six months Telkom’s ADSL subscriber base grew to 699,368, with an average of 8,651 net ADSL additions per month. This is up from 647,462 ADSL subscribers six months ago and a 16% year-on-year ADSL subscriber growth."

Yes, ADSL growth has started accelerating again in the last six months, because in the last six months, Telkom promised upgrades to 10 Mbps. They make a big noise about it, so many people (like me), either get ADSL, or upgrade their existing speed to 4Mbps (in the hope of an imminent upgrade to 10Mbps) and then Telkom only upgrade a selected few lines. They now have new customers onboard and old customers (like me) who upgraded their speeds, so they had a successful campaign (Telkom). Now all they have to do is sit back and rake in more money - why bother with the promised speed upgrades?

:mad::mad::mad:

Hopefully Telkom make enough money with 8ta, that they can start selling DSL lines without analogue voice line rental. That would help everyone out.

tempted to be angry towards these subscirbers, but with Telkom still passing the same price onto other ISP's with you paying the same if not a little more, I can fully understand.

That's good news. If only 1% of those create online businesses, from which to earn a living, we have an extra IT employment growth rate, averaging of 8,6 people per month. I'm sure that the figure is way higher, since people that get ADSL, usually do so with an IT/online business in mind.
