Hi there

I hope someone can assist me. My dad has uncapped 384kbps adsl in the main house. I am also connected to the same internet via a lan connection. But with me connecting to his internet and doing a lot of downloading - it is slowing him down tremendously

Is it possible for me to purchase my own uncapped package - and use the same adsl line that he is using?

If not, what other options do I have? he doesnt really want to upgrade his speed, so I need to arrange "My own" package"

Please assist

Thank you so much

Hi,,

You will need to get your own line if you dont want to slow anyone down, so for your 'own' package another line will need to be installed at home

Upgrade your physical line to a higher speed, and then yes you could run 2x 384k uncapped accounts on the line. Provided your router supports half bridge mode.

@MelissaFleet - your line speed determines the maximum speed at which you could possibly download. So if it is 384 kbps, then you can only download at 384 kbps no matter what accounts you have. If you upgrade your line as warwickw suggested to i.e. a 512 kbps line, then you can run an 384 kbps account at full speed, and you should have about 128 kbps left for another account. So you'll need to go and look at what will be the cheapest: upgrading your line to i.e. a 512 kbps line (will that be sufficient for you?) and upgrade your uncapped account to 512 kbps, or upgrade the line and get another uncapped account, or upgrade to i.e. a 4 Mbps line with two 384 kbps uncapped accounts... All will depend on what you're willing to pay and how much the extra speed is worth to you.
