hi there

im a new adsl user and am unsure on how much bandwidth certain websites use up. i know no one is using my bandwidth, as my numbers are steady after the previous bandwidth theft (which was shocking..) and my meter is monitoring no usage when my pc is both off and idle. The main sites used are facebook, myspace, email and msn messenger. No streaming audio or video is used, as i know sites such as youtube eat away at your cap (if im correct, over 50mgs for certain videos?)

It seems i average around 80-100mgs a day, where no other downloading takes place? Does that seem correct, or is it fairly high? i just want to compare it with similar users to see if im mistaken or just worrying to much..

Thanks

depends on length of time/amount of sites visited and if its mostly new content or regular sites. For a single user its on the upper higher end of avg usage tho could just be you viewing alot of media content.

thanks for the info guys. I forgot to take into account that there are 3 of us who use the internet daily (i am not a single internet user). I only have a 3g cybersmart account, so scared that im going to be capped soon...

lol 3 users would explain it, 100mgs a day on general browsing seems way to high, extremely high. Expecially if u arent streaming audio or video.. Its taken me almost a month and a half to use 1gb and i play wow and browse and chat... thats about it..

i was a bit confused with the last reply.. Are you saying 3 people using would explain such high usage, unlike you being a single user and able to stretch over a gig per month? when browsing, im referring to sites with high media content, but no streaming audio or video. sites mentioned above (myspace, facebook, email, and msn chatting)

well if u visit the site regularly you will find that a lot of the content becomes cached on your pc so the actual data transfered is less. I'd say for basic stuff browsing can be about 15-25MB a day incl text chatting on msn/skype/gtalk etc. and thats for like a whole 15hr day :P but when u add media sites that u have not seen like pics/photo albums or vids then it can add up fast another 25 - 50++MB.

Anyways 25-35MB a user i'm thinking is normal(regular sites etc)
