Hi,

I am relatively desperate for the ideal solution available.

I need a router with ADSL and 3G connectivity (for failover). The 3G connection needs to have an external SMA connector that you screw into the router. I have found that the little rubber connections that wraps around the 3G modems doesn't work as effectively as the SMA connectors.

Will I find a solution or should I accept my fate?

The reason for the SMA connector is because of the 3G coverage with is sort of bad.

You want to do this for private or business use?

Internet Solutions have a ADSL/3G router combo available with their business ADSL solution which allows for seamless fail-over between the two. Your external IP addresses also remains unchanged so you can host services even when in fail-over mode.

Cisco 3G -- Fail Over

I wonder what IS charge for such a solution ?????

Well, setting up the failover link will only work sufficient if the 3G signal is strong enough. I am not yet interested in I.S. solution. I only really need to have the best quality for the 3G facility. Mobile reception at the customer is currently very bad. Unfortunately, from previous experiences, the USB extension cord is not as effective as the screw-in SMA connector.

Regarding modem, E352 R349 14.4Mbps from MTN. The cheapest quality modem with external antenna connector.
Pigtail CRC9 to SMA R70 (or so) from Otto Marketting.

Take a look at the Presto Advanced and the GlobeSurfer 3+.
The Presto Advanced is a dual SIM 3G industrial router with build-in ADSL. Maybe a bit overkill for your needs with it's other features.
The GlobeSurfer 3+ can connect to a ADSL router and if the ADSL goes down it will switch to 3G. It allows you to connect an external antenna to improve the 3G signal. However, it does not have a SMA connector - you will need a suitable SMA adapter cable.
