ADSL with NoCap

Hi

John, I am busy setting up the server today for the weekend. I can give you a username and password for you to test it. Live data is also possible as i can disable cache on specific sites that need updating. So send me an email with the site name and i will also send you a U&P.

Thanx
Jason

Hi,

I'm currently trying this NoCap service out.. and so far everything's working REALLY great. I'm capped.. and currently downloading INTERNATIONALLY at about 25kbps in KaZaa. This never even happened when I wasn't capped on the normal ADSL connection.

And, opposed to MegaLan, Jason, the technical manager of nocap was really quick in responding to all my emails.
Because this is a SOCKS proxy server, you can send almost all of the popular protocols through it, WITHOUT any kind of traffic shaping being applied by telkom.

I must say: Thanks NoCap for a GREAT service so far.

Hey can any1 please explain this 2 me if the nocap.co.za guyz can buy b/w like that why cant all ISP's buy b/w like that and give us unlimited b/w for a 50:1 ratio ?

DigitalSoldier has a very good point - I guess the ISP's think its not their problem and anyway, why should they take the risk of providing decent ADSL bandwidth if Telkom themselves won't even do it??

It's VERY different providing a proxy server and selling accounts with the rated bandwidth.
Proxy servers require FAR less bandwidth.

As far as I know at least

Hi

Well the past week has been good, quite a few people responded to my challenge and the server ran well. Thanx to everyone who particpated in the system.
As from tommorrow all usernames begining with user** will be disabled, as we are now going over to a fully paid service. I know it was good getting some bandwidth for free but we are now recieving a few paid clients and we want to provide the best possible service to them.
For every one who wants to sign up there will be new accounts created that you can test out for 2 days before having to commit to the service so there is no obligation to sign up.
In the near future we will be upgrading our service substantially, so be on the look out.
To all the guys who tested the service feel free to report what the service was like (good and bad), as we want to provide an all round service.
We currently have 2 services OP1 for R99pm and OP2 for R299pm.
For more details on the service visit www.nocap.co.za

Thanx
Jason

No, there is NO difference in die bandwidth a proxy needs, and the bandwidth you refer to as "normal bandwidth". I just wonder where a guy gets R39 000 per month to fork out for a 256k connection...
There was a service provider a while back who said that once you reach the 3GB cap on your adsl account, they will tunnel your traffic through their dedicated connections.

As I understand it, telkom provides the ADSL account, with 3GB of traffic to the service providers, then just reselling this offer. They can, however, choose to rather route this traffic in excess of 3GB through their own infrastructure... personally I think they're afraid telkom will have their ass if they do.

Have you guys heard how that stupid telkom "service consultants" suck up to you when you phone with an order to cancel a service? And that patented-telkom phrase: "How may I provide you with excellent service". What the hell... if only the DID provide a service.. I think they're very afraid of the SNO coming soon.

Telkom could provide adsl with NO CAP so easily and at NO COST to them. here's how......

70% of internet usage occurs from 8am to 6pm.

The 70% bandwidth usage disappears after 8pm, over weekends and public holidays.

Telkom could quite easily allow unlimited downloads from 8pm until 8am with no impact on the network.

So we could have a 3GB cap @ R400pm[8D] applied to international usage between 8am to 6pm - unlimited dls outside these hours.

btw. if we could just make use of all the leased lines after hours via proxy - there must be 1000s of 64K+ international lines standing idle after hours - it is this free to telkom bandwidth that most internet users are using and paying for.

He isn't using a diginet line evidently. The proxy's IP is actually a 165.165.*.* IP, so I assume it's just a well setup ADSL Proxy. Thus, he doesnt really need much bandwidth as most of the stuff gets cached.

yeah.. I suppose he just use the 165.165 adsl dial-up for local users to connect into his network, try pinging www.nocap.co.za. I suppose that's the 256k diginet line.

for the technically chalenged ones like me, just a question...
So how do you actually connect to this VPN? do i still connect to my own service provider and then . . . ?

That is the tragidy! The Internet is supposed to be the place where free spirits meet and greet and work together to build something worthwhile to everybody. It is supposed to be a place where nobody (governments / telco's) should be able to stand in your way in figuring out interesting new and fresh ideas of communicating in a digital world. What would the world not be like if Telkom had an open door to new ideas and was a community instrument designed at facilitating the best (and most affordable) ways of getting the country connected.

I guess debates will be raging about this issue for some time to come.
