ADSL Woes

My ADSL suddenly stopped working on Saturday around 1430. No DSL Sync. On my way home I noticed some Telkom techs at their box around the corner from my house and went back to chat with them but they were gone when I got there.

Here is the kicker, my phone line works (I can make and receive calls) but DSL is down. I called Telkom on Sunday morning to report the fault and received a reference number from them and needles to is it is still unresolved. The odd thing is Telkom tells me (via their call center) that my line would either work or it wouldn't, one cant work with out the other. Still, I have prove it does. I have also carried out various tests including replacing my modem as suggested by Helkom... I mean Telkom.

Called a senior Telkom mate of mine who informed me that all the local techs were at the Cape Epic Challenge and would not be available until next week, WTF?????

And then I remember that movie, TIA everyone, TIA :)

I see your drama and I raise you one: I don't even have a dial-tone :)

Waiting on a techie to get his arse over here to fix it. Unfortunately these sorts of things are done in Valve time.

The voice and data portions can fail independantly from one another, having voice does show that it's unlikely to be a "Line" issue. More probably a blown port at the DSLAM which should be confirmable easily enough by a helpdesk drone by testing whether the line can pick up a router attached to the port or not. Sometimes you just need to know what questions to ask :P

i feel ya dude.. hope you get sorted real soon

Thanks, saixbot. Unfortunately it's a typical example of the customer waiting on Telkom and not Telkom waiting on the customer. **** knows when they're going to get their asses around to fix my line. All I know is that my patience is wearing thin...

I hate Telkom with a passion.

TIA right? My line just came back up, whoop whoop...
Telkom people like randomly pulling out all the cables & plugging them back in after lunch. Then I get a different portnumber and the DSLSecure blocks the new portnum. Great.

I had a dead line for 3 out of the 4 weeks this month - was told Telkom had to order a new cable.

Lots of fuming ensued.

Luckily after the 3 weeks I'm now able to sync at 6mb instead of the paltry 2mb before.
Funny that I told Telkom a year ago they should replace my line as it's so crap.
They should have listened to me way back then.

LOL! Wow... That's... brilliant :D

Sounds like someone has a grudge against you :o

Jeez... I've been without internet for 31-hours and counting and already losing my marbles. A week? THREE? *twitch*

Officially 48-hours and 14-minutes without proper internet access.

I don't suppose anyone has any ideas how I might get this resolved today? :)

Myne has been down since Sunday with the same symptoms, the tech, I mean the monkey with a multimeter checked the exchange apparently and marked the fault as fixed without contacting me. I reopened it and are still waiting...

Ouch... That's awful. In my case I was told that the the power er... died/a switch tripped at the DSLAM. I really hope yours comes right soon. I had a really friendly techie although very busy, from what I could tell.

I'm beyond hope, they keep on messing me around.

Try asking the techie to contact you and make sure it's working before closing the fault next time? Be explicit? I wish I could offer some advice, maybe someone can help you.

I know how frustrating it is, the last two days have been really frustrating :(

Best wishes, Veroland :(

I need to actually speak to the techie for that
