Can anyone recommend any courses in Gauteng area.

Pros/ cons etc.

TIA.

I would like to tag along onto this thread, but I am in CT...

How much do they cost?
How long do they take?
Do you use your own car?
How much does it bring down insurance premiums?

Cheers

Audi used to have one at Wesbank Raceway & you can inquire at BMW's offices in Midrand for theirs.

I did two BMW ones 5 years ago. Was R500 (BMW Skid Control) and R1600 (BMW Precision Driving)

havent been for one, but presumably its best to go with the guys that do the course in cars that resemble or are the same as your current car.

You wont use your own car.

Prices differ.

There are the ones i have heard of

That BMW one seems to only be in Joburg...
The prices on the 4rings site are quite steep as well - Can't seem to find out where they are located...

Do you drive a BMW then or do you do it in a beemer no matter what you drive?

And did it help your insurance premiums? :)

I think just to be safe, rather check with your own insurance company if they will give you a discount on your premiums, and how much for which courses.

I've done Audi's advanced driving course at Kyalami. Excellent course, starts at 9am and finishes around 5pm...

There no cons only pros:D

It's money well spent as they show you the importance of life saving mechanisms like ABS and ESP traction control and how to effectively use them in driving situations.

All in all a very informative and entertaining exercise..

BMW, VW, Audi and Merc all have courses. I think the BMW one is the oldest of them in SA.

I've got the documentation for the BMW one here somewhere, I just can't find it atm.

You get to choose from some pretty schweet cars. Pretty sure the Z4 was on the list...but it depends on which courses you choose.

Someone at BMW recommend to me that one does the Basic skills course and then some other ones too, even if the Basic one isn't as fun as the others.

Haven't been yet, but my dad promised me I can go end of the year. Book early.

And in Cape Town? :p

Nah - I drive a RunX. You do it in a BMW 130i, 330i or Mini Cooper S afaik. You get the high performance BMW (R5000.00 in those days) where you drive an M3

I've done one of the VW courses. Pretty cool. Was awesome chucking a GTI around the skidpan.

They're based at Kyalami race track, but the skidpan they use is umm.... name escapes me right now, but it's a few k's up the road. (Apparently BMW have exclusive use of the Kyalamai skidpan, or some such). Well, that was the case in Feb last year anyway.

But surely the mercedes one is in an automatic? sucky if you ask me, would rather do the BMW or Audi one, although that C63 would be frikken awesome.
Teegee, did the VW course do anything for your premiums? I have only ever been asked once on an insurance quote if I have any advanced stuff.
