Morning all,

I am in the process of setting up a couple of things, and need some advice regarding a Service Provider to use. The following are my requirements, so I would appreciate some advice around suitable SPs:

1. Registration of a .co.za domain
2. Hosting of e-mail server/services, possibly website-hosting at a later stage
3. VPN access to e-mail services, as I am currently on iBurst and don't trust their smtp server, and they don't allow other smtp servers.

For now that should be it ... as I think of more things, I will add it here.

Thanks!

You should possibly include how much bandwidth you think you will need, storage needs and what your cost parameters are

Lets put it like this: I am currently on a 3G iBurst connection, constant VPN connection to a mail environment, which totals less than 500Mb per month.
ITO storage, I actually don't know ... what is the "default" size for mailboxes lately?
Cost, I don't want to bring that into the picture (yet), first want some opinions

I can help you out -- webmail and smtp using port 26 should sort your email problems out.
If you'd like a trial run (no strings attached) let me know.

(co.za domain registration is R50, cost price, no charges added to it)

texo, thanks ... don't want to use webmail though ... will I have access via outlook as well?

Yes, you'll have normal POP/SMTP access.
Using port 26 (instead of 25) for SMTP usually gets around any iBurst problems, so I have this set up by default.

Hi,

I don't get why iBurst would not allow connections to other SMTP servers? I would be happy to host you as well - my servers are located overseas, in two different locations to be exact.

You won't need to pay unless you are happy with the account.

Best wishes

You have PM

I can vouch for Mr. Texo uncle Landy, you won't be sorry by choosing them ;)

Hey tera!

Yeah, I will most probably soon start to ask the general forum for comments re texo and RavenServers

My comments so far. I've had 3 domains with them so far. I had to cancel 2 due to circumstances out of my control, but I still have 1.

Mr. Texo (He has a real name, lol) is a really cool person and a great businessman, I really appreciate his help if I have a problem and he's friendly as well. I would say it's not called "ethical webhosting" without a reason.

For individual to individual service, person to person, he's your man ;)

I second that.

Do they really block all other smtp servers? What about imap?

I host a ton of sites over at powweb for under $6 per month. Decent service if you dont mind overseas hosting.

bwana, yep ... (s)troll through the iBurst section, and have a look at all the posts where people bitch about the block on Port 25. Not a major issue, if your hosting company makes provision for this and move the smtp to port 26 for instance. For those people who don't have that flexibility, you have to use the (more often than not blacklisted) iBurst smtp server

Powweb allows you to use smtp on port 24 as well as 25.
