Hi

New to all of this! Basically i would like to share a connection with my neighbour in a block of flats. best package at the moment i think is the vodacom 2gig through hsdpa.
whats the best way of sharing the connection? I would be using a usb modem. Would my pc need to be on 24/7 and we just share a network?
Hardware i have at home - a wireless router and an adsl wireless router. I am aware that i probably have no use for the adsl router as im not using telkom. Also how would the 2nd user dial up ?

Thanks!!!

You would have to share your vodacom hsdpa connection on your pc. You need to setup 'Internet Connection Sharing', there is an option 'Establish a dialup connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to acces the internet' (on by default).

But with this solution your pc must be on 24/7 for the 2nd user to be able to connect. I assume you and the 2nd user are on a network (the same) already.

The 2nd user must just change his TCP/IP config of his network card to DHCP. The pc will pick up the settings from your pc. As soon as you configure 'Internet Connection Sharing' on your pc, it becomes a DHCP server as well and assign address to pc on the same LAN.

Hope this helps.

You can simply plug the 3G modem into one of the computers and choose to share the internet connection in windows. The other computer can be connected directly via a cross-over cable, or via the wireless switch. The computer with the modem will have to be on for the neighbour to have internet access though.

or you guys could club together and get an adsl line, and you could run a cable though the wall, or hook it up wirelessly :)

thanks guys, will give it a go and let u know if there are any prob!

know about that router but isnt that another R2500 or something?
cant get an adsl line cos it takes too long to install and is more expensive than the vodacom option at the mo.

Hey pacol100.

I would advise to go with the Linksys option. It costs about R1500-R1800. It also saves the trouble of wires to connect the two pc's and pc's being on 247 for access.
