Hi,

I am due for an upgrade on the 20th of June and would appreciate your advice.
I am on a VC Weekender per Sec contract and really want an iPhone, but can't pay in more than about R1000 once off handset cost.

If I am correct VC should be releasing new specials today. I currently need to pay in about R3000 (I think) for a 16GB iPhone.
Shouldn't the pay in ammount have changed from today?

I don't really need the 16GB, the 8GB would be fine with me but I've been hearing rumors that the 8GB iPhone isn't available anymore.

All comments, ideas and info would be greatly appreciated...

How much is the weekend package? MWEB / VC offered the iPhone free on the Business Time at R 185 pm free, and the Talk 130 at R 315 pm. Now sure if it is still running.

For the 8GB or 16 GB?
The weekend package is R135.00 pm.

*edit*
The Business is R185.00 x 24 months = R4440.00
and Weekender is R135.00 x 24 months = 3240.00
Thus the price difference over 24 months is 1200.00

Hopefully if it's free on a Business it only has a R1200.00 pay in on a Weekender.

I am in exactly the same position! Also due for an upgrade on the 20th!!! I also want the Iphone (Iam on a Talk 200s package) but don't want to pay more than R500 in. I am alos considering the Sony Ericson X1, Samsung Omnia and 5800 XM and maybe a comparable HTC phone. I really dont know wich phone to get....... Please advice me on what and why...............

It was the iPhone 8GB at R 185 on Business Time (no free minutes). I actually took one on the Talk 130 for R 315 pm (130 anytime minutes). I thought it was a good deal, even though it is an outgoing model, considering that the iPhone unlocked sells for around R 6500 without a contract.

Okay, but if I walk into a Vodashop and ask for an 8GB iPhone... Will they still have it, or would they be able to order one for me?

Is it true that the Iphone doenst have a GPS or that it is not working very well?

The iPhone does have a GPS chip which is very powerful. The phone comes preloaded with Google Maps, which I haven't really used for navigation. Seems a bit more cumbersome to use it than my Garmin. Anyway it is downloading the maps / sat images which uses up bandwidth, because the maps are not preloaded on the phone. I would use it in extreme cases when I don't have my Garmin handy.
