Advice on purchasing a Porsche

Why do you care about carting kids around in your sports car? It's a car for you. Keep the family car around if everybody needs to go somewhere together...

Agreed.

When buying a sports car I don't see how rear seats/rear seat space is even relevant.

OP if you are in need of a vehicle large and comfortable enough for carting the family around but still want performance and "sportiness" get an M3/RS4/C55 AMG or one of the larger variants.

IMO a Porsche should be for the solo commutes or the weekend drives with/without the SO.

An SUV is not what I dreamed of as a kid.
Porsche had to succumb to market trends but the Cayenne and Panamera are not true sports cars.

Yeah me neither but then again I guess the difference between us is that a Porsche was never my childhood dream,I liked Lambo's and Ferraris more...so I can understand why a Cayenne is not going to give you the pleasure of driving a Porsche sports car to satisfy that need.

Mind you it just shows how good the Cayenne is,I was not a Porsche fan and even driving a 911 turbo didn't change that for me yet driving a Cayenne won me over!:D

Oh yes I drove the Cayenne and love it,the way it delivers the power is almost super car like, surprises you when you first drive it expecting a SUV like feel.Brilliant car and one I will hopefully buy soonish...hows the maintenance costs on them though?

That big engine tone also is something, sigh.

Never bought one at the end of the day, stuck with my trusty 2nd hand, paid-off car.

Ah what a wonderful problem to have, very jealous OP. One of the reasons I love Porsche is that it's an achievable supercar. Lambos, Ferraris, wonderful cars but I'm probably never going to be able to own one. Porsche, well, maybe. And you're getting every bit the supercar experience.
Boxster S would do me just perfect thanks.
WRT your "problem", afraid I can't offer much advice short of any of em will be good.

Was at Porsche in JHB last week and was chatting to the guy about the 918 Spyder (that potent Hybrid). They reckon it's going to retail for around 15mil (excl options).

We also got onto the topic of tyres. Tyres for your bog standard Porsche (if there is such a thing) START at R20k a set! :wtf:

But good luck OP. Buying yourself a cracking car :) I'm going home in my Polo now! :D
