Hi all,

So I've recently had my VW 1.9 TDI Polo stolen for the 2nd time in 6 months and have decided to get a new car. In a perfect world I'd go and get another Polo - I love them - but sadly I'll have to get something else from a safety POV.

My budget is max R220k and what is key to me is a comprehensive maintenance plan (preferable 5yr / 90 000km). Not a service plan but the full maintenance one. All I want to have to care about is the monthly repayments and tyres.

It'll be the first time buying a car for myself and I don't follow car developments so it's quite a new world for me.

I've been looking around and so far I've found that I can get a very low milage demo Hyundai i20 with a 3yr / 60 000km maintenance plan for R220k. I always thought that it wasn't a good brand but I was very impressed by the build quality of the new i20 my only concern is its power.

Other options are a Mazda 2 demo, Ford Fiesta demo, maybe the Opel Corsa demo. My first thought was actually a 2nd hand Audi A1, probably 2011 model with approx 50k on the clock.

Any recommendations / suggestions or things to note on these vehicles would be appreciated!

I have a Titanium Fiesta and have no complaints. Love my car

I did a test drive of the i20 and fiesta today. The i20 really leaves a lot to be desired. The fiesta was much nippier but now I really appreciate the power my polo had

Thinking my only option now is a 2nd hand or demo A1. Anyone here driven the new 1.0l? I'm interested to know how it performs

The Fiesta comes in a 1.0T at 92kw. Audi's 1.0TFSi only comes in at 70kw so I don't think you'll find a power jump there. If anything it will feel more gutless than the equivalent fiesta.

How about the older 1.4 TFSI? Not sure on its power....

Audi's 1.4Tfsi comes in at about the same 92kw as the Fiesta. If you weren't happy with the Fiesta's power it might be much the same in the 1.4

The i20 has all they fancy features, but its drive doesn't compare to the Polo. It's like driving a plastic toy.

I have to agree. Right now I'm considering test driving the A1 1.4 as well as the 1.6TDI - I think the diesel will compare to my polo's diesel from what I can find the A1 is 77kw/250nM

I'm thinking it'll come between the i20 and Fiesta

I drove the 1.0 Fiesta a while back and it was a great little car....except for its power. Had to drive in 2nd to get up some average hills. Otherwise it didn't feel too plasticcy.

Got myself the 2013 Golf7 1.2 TSi on thursday 2nd hand. Drove it this weekend and it does the job. Eats up the kms. Averaged 4.3L/100km on the open road, which is windy due to all the fjords we have here. (80-90kmh speed limits on the roads, so I wasn't gunning it either).

Have you looked at the Rio/C'eeds ?

My main reason for getting a new car (and not getting another polo) is my safety concern (mine has been stolen twice) and I feel that the Golf has the same theft issues.

Kia Rio? C'eeds?
