Advice picking a new car

^ I had a 2012 Picanto 1.0 for three months. The 1.0 is definitely capable as a city car and does have enough power. On the highways, 100km/h is easy to reach without draining fuel - 120km/h will require you to floor it to get it there but once you're there, all is well. The 1.2 will obviously be better.

I'd probably pick the VW over the two, but I haven't driven the Up. One factor to keep in mind is 3 vs 5 doors.

Thanks! I'm also inclined toward the VW just bcz of precedent and what I'm used to, but the Picanto 1.2 does look good on paper. It's not that I drive 140 on the freeway but being able to cruise at 130 without feeling like the engine might explode will be quite important.

Oh and thanks for pointing out 3 vs 5dr quite honestly I prefer the 3dr and don't need a 5dr. So either way I'm happy

The 1.0 did manage 130 easily. Getting there from 100 took time but it managed :). VW would most likely be better from a depreciation perspective as well.

Tbh I never even considered the depreciation, I would be looking for a demo model either way though. Another thing the VW has going for it is it has a 5star ncap safety rating!

So I ended up giving an up a test drive this afternoon and was blown away by it's nippyness, handling and build quality. Very very impressive.

Any owners on this forum?

The UP!?

I remember reading somewhere that they will be sold with the 1.0 TSI motor soon.
I'd wait for that if I were you.

The Up is still Vw and will also be high risk. Perhaps try the Opel Adam or Corsa?

You think so? I thought the main reason for the polo being stolen is bcz of its common parts (used for spares) and I don't think that the up has many common parts?

Also both those vehicles are more expensive

First quarter 2017 apparently...
Thats quite a wait

Tx for finding that... unfortunately I need something within the next month so that's not an option :(

But it seems more models will be available in May...

I've read the whole article now - so sad that, that engine and infotainment system won't be available sooner :( Would have loved the slightly bigger engine and the new infotainment systems (mainly for smartphone integration)
