Advice picking a new car

TBH it's the peace of mind knowing that all I have to worry about is the monthly repayment to the bank, also it's a tad bit of insurance for whatever may or may not happen

So in other words, you want to pay too much cause you're scared you won't manage your finances and have $ available at the services. The insurance bit is what the warranty and service plan is for - anything that will shock your wallet should be covered by that.

Ghost some people don't mind paying for things just in case. I'm not one of them but I like pink shirts that say "Bad Man" on the back so who am I to judge. I would pay money for said shirt.

It's not about managing finances but more about my mediocre of knowledge cars
 
Miky so I saw the Dynamic is R211k but the Individual with even more nice things for R223k which was your +maintance plan price.

I'm just seeing OP write off awesome options, because having to add the 20k will break his budget. As I said, his money though..

On the very first page the cover page in the left hand corner. Also I have a CX-5 so I know, that came with 4years unlimited serv & warranty. It's been reduced to 3years now but the upside is the car didn't get a price increase or thats what I heard.

Wait unless a service plan and a maintenance plan are two different things but why would you do anything other than services for the first 3 years?

Miky now i'm confused what do you want to maintain on a new car that's not a routine service as per the manual and also not covered by the warranty? If I was a salesman I would love to sell people that, it's free money! Let's say the turbo pops surely the warranty should cover that, and in this case there isn't even a turbo since it's naturally aspirated. Engine blows, warranty

Basically all wear and tear items > brakes, shocks, wipers, clutch...

You shouldn't have to replace that within 3 years if you do normal kms per year only after. And that's why I say it's free money for the salesman. As for wipers that's some expensive wipers then.

If any of those things go wrong you are statistically just purely unlucky it's like falling in a storm drain, it could happen but you don't pay someone just in case.

soooooo.... now that most of you have enlightened me as to the maintenance plan story (and bearing in mind my limited knowledge of cars) what would I be replacing / paying for in the first few years of owning a new vehicle? And idea on costs?

I am, but like I said I don't know much about cars...

So what are the main things that I'll need to be replacing?

Brakes - once a year? depending how I drive?
Wipers - Once a year?
Shocks - Once in 3 years? 5 years?
Bulbs - 2 / 3 years?

ok and that's what I can think of...

Depending on how you drive - your brakes should last +/-50 000km - these you don't but at the stealerships anyway, you get them at midas and replace them at HiQ +/-R800.
Shocks last 75 000km - or 5 years.
Wipers - replace when needed +/-R200 at midas, they'll help you out with model and all that.
Clutch - unless you drive like an orangutan, no ways the clutch will fail in the first 3-4years.
